As a member of the Knoxville Writers Guild, and in particular of the Guild’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writers’ Group, I recently joined in on a writing experiment that was downright fun. The idea was that each of us write a short ditty (called “flash writing”) using a photo as a writing prompt.
We were given several stock photos to choose from: a couple of samurais…

I know, I know, I missed last Friday's blog. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it was Christmas and I was away from the computer. Second, I might have written the blog earlier in the week and scheduled a post, but I was busy being frustrated and exasperated with a certain company. So, this week, I think I'd like to write out my frustrations in part to…

Hopefully, some of you have checked out a few of my blog posts since I began the blogging adventure just a few months ago. If you haven’t, now would be as good a time as any. I’ll wait . . .
Now comes the hard part. You have to let me know what you think. I put a lot of time into this blog, keeping each post short and sweet—and also, hopefully, humorous and…

So, I'm sitting around the apartment this afternoon and I receive a phone call (which I'm lucky I saw the phone screen light up, because the main speaker is broken) and it's this week's featured author wondering where I am, that I've missed the interview.
After profusely apologizing, I jump in the transporter and…

Now, to introduce myself.

My first book was picked up last year and I had to agree to a few minor 'tweaks." My editor did a lot of critiquing but never in a constructive way. She made me change both of my main characters' personalities because she didn't like them. And when I told her I no longer recognized the story as my own she told me she only liked the concept and to have it in print I had to completely reconstruct the manuscript.
I did contact a few authors before pulling out from the deal because this…

“I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!”
I wish I could see this done more often.
I didn't need too much time to figure out how this relates to writing. Teamwork. Specifically, support groups in the form of: writers' critique groups, the Posse, and author groups.
Critique…

Every time I kick I fall down, push I fall down
Excuse me but skating was something I never learned
But as the world turns I embrace it
With bruises across the face
And inerasable cuts, scrapes and burns
In turn, I give the world my all
Kick flip my flaws
By far
The harder they are
The bigger the fall
The stiffer they guard
The quicker they are
To fall short and get back up and do trick with the…

This week, I don't pick up my featured author, he gives me directions. I start out by transporting to Paris. Then I have to act as if I know how to effect a French accent to tell the cabbie an address (although I could be telling him I'd like to date his sister for all I know) - “sank roo doe noo”.
Fortunately, he doesn't drag me out of the vehicle and pummel me. Instead, in a few minutes I find…
