Here's hoping to meet some like-minded people with passion for Reading/Writing!

Hello ALL,

I think this web page seems great for a number of reasons. It is fortunate to find a place that connects beginners in the writing process to publishers who have been in the business for a while.

Mostly it is refreshing to find a place where there are like-minded individuals who ultimately value the power of writing and reading, and the coming together to learn, share, and explore.

A snippet about myself:

 I have been reading…

Around the Globe with MAKAYLA YOKLEY

The first Friday in August bodes another day of heat and no rain…just like the last, uh, I can’t remember how many. The weather girl on WHO Radio is bored out of her mind because the forecast never changes.

So, I’m off to pick up this week’s featured author and we transport to what she calls her wonderland. (Again, I don’t know the actual destination because…

Huge contest with many incredible prizes!

This weekend is the 3 month anniversary of Humanless' publication! I can't believe how time has flown. Three months ago, Humanless was a word file on my hard drive and 2 people in the whole wide world had read it. Today, it's a bestselling book, top 10 in its categories on several occasions in many countries including Germany, Italy and UK. I'm so grateful for every single person who's bought the book and gave some of their precious time to read it! A big, big thank you to everyone who…

The Rich

The rich have been in the news since the “Occupy” sit-ins.  Well, further back than that of course. Currently the 1% is being blogged about and referred to in “social media” circles.  Is it important to writers? Possibly.  Bookstores are affected by the economy and market trends. I got fairly beat up on a social media comment reply that went five or six rounds. The topic was the 1% and their fair share. You can see where this was going. The other person didn’t believe my point. It…

My Beginning Journey

This, ladies and gentlemen, is my first attempt at blogging. I've actually been in conflict with myself as to start blogging for a few weeks now. Today, I reluctantly decided to take that step (as you can tell by reading this post). It was a spur of the moment choice.  I sat down in front of the computer to check my Facebook and I suddenly found myself on authors.com. I had many ideas on what I wanted to place in my blog posts but really did not know which topic to start with. I thought I…

'If You've Got a Business, You Didn't Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen.'

Being a sci-fi novelist, I consider myself to be a small business entrepreneur, and I don't like Obama saying: 'If You've Got a Business, You Didn't Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen.' Damn Obama straight to the pits of hell where he belongs, I sit in front of my computer twelve to fourteen hours a day, using my imagination talents to write two to three novels per year. Please check out my eNovels, and their all priced under three dollars so everyone in…

Reconnecting with past learning experiences

I find myself looking back at past learning environments and wondering how much of the learning was my responsibility and how much of it was the institutions. As I re-read my post on blacks failing, I wonder about patterns of delusion that may have been prearranged by the institution.…

Character Names

Character Names

I can’t claim originality on this topic. I replied to Joanne Guidoccios’ blog on this.

This caught my attention immediately. It is difficult to be completely original. One’s character name is really important. Part of the joy of writing fiction is that you can make things up …. that’s right, lies out of whole cloth…. and includes names of characters. At some time in the far past it was all right to use common names if your character was written to…

WOMEN CONQUER AND RULE

Besides being a writer, I’m a woman, a wife, mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. And I’m a human being, an American, a daughter of pioneers.

Over the past 28 years that I’ve written and been published, I’ve seen the role of women in novels and stories evolve from the meek to the mighty. Some could say this has happened much too slowly, some could add that the female role has become a bit ridiculous in some instances. Women who fight and conquer monsters might seem to…

Are You Reading?

One of the key ingredients of advice to aspiring writers is to read.

The neophyte might then ask, what am I to read? Does it mean how-to books? Books written by the advisor? What?

My personal feeling is a writer should read the types of books he or she wishes to write. Most would-be writers are already readers. Inspired by the books they read for pleasure or edification, they strive to emulate, feeding both an innate need and a desire to share their thoughts…
