The Fun in Writing

It's a relief to complete a manuscript, especially one you've worked on for 2 years and 3 months. Since I've been writing I learned you have to write, and rewrite, and re-rewrite your manuscript to check for typos, book flow, and to make your work better. As a writer I share a common feeling of satisfaction when I've completed a manuscript for editing. My manuscript is done and in the hands of an editor! The plan is for a 2012 release. It's a comedy/drama about life in home improvement.

Got a good critique that's helping me choose the direction I need for my novel. Always glad to make changes. It's how books get better.

Enjoyed a good weekend proof-reading my next novel, but still have 70 pages to go. At least I managed to wash the car and walk my dog, too!

Had a great day walking in Balboa Park and found some inspirational ideas for a children's book. Amazing what you can think of outdoors.

Writing Styles for a comedy novel

Posted on April 29, 2010 at 5:44am 2 Comments

As I pass the mid-point of my comedy novel about retail I am working on a style very new to me. One, I have never written comedy before, but the ideas are flowing and my critic(s) tells me it sounds good. However, I am writing in a style that is almost narrative.

Example:

I woke up the next morning with an aching headache and immediately wished I hadn't gone out partying the night before. I couldn't think straight let alone stand up on my own two feet. As I…

The readers of G.R.E.A.T.

Posted on January 18, 2010 at 4:35am 0 Comments

On Wednesday I had a wonderful discussion with the book club G.R.E.A.T. (Girls Reading Everything & Anything Together). I was invited by Tracey Smith after she read my novel THE SANDMAN. I have never met Tracey in person, but had to contact her every 3 years as I renewed my PHCC Certification with the state of California. When she learned I had a book published she ordered a copy on Borders.com and presented it to her group.

It was with great pleasure to learn the group was happy… Continue

Merry Christmas!

Posted on December 23, 2009 at 12:54am 2 Comments

I hope all of you are spending this holiday season with family and friends.

But that doesn't mean we can't sport this spirit throughout the rest of the year. I personally have had life-changing events take place that leave me wondering what I did that was so right to be blessed with such good fortune. I… Continue
