The Redcliffe Trilogy Inspiration

About a week ago I woke up one morning feeling a mild sense of panic when I realised that once I finish editing Love Kills and send it off to the publisher, I will then need to start writing the third Redcliffe book. At the time it was only a vague idea in my head, sort of following on from the latest instalment that I just wrote. Determined not to be perturbed, I put the panic out of my mind and sent out a silent plea to my muse.

After lunch I finally dragged myself away…

AN UPDATE FROM RALPH HAWK

Since I last spoke to you, I've been under a constant barrage of criticism and negativity. And if that statement seems to beg your sympathy, believe me it's real purpose is only the proclamation of life as I find it today; that is, how I am living now with those who are my artistic comrades and equals here on the north bank of our city's river.

And I have mammoth responsibilities here. I'm the de facto leader of a large (and still growing) entourage of creative…

T.P.L Publications LLC

The T.P.L Publications came about from and idea that CEO's Fiordaliza Charles and Charron Monaye agreed to back in 2010, that would enable them to help to create poetry anthologies, that will aide to showcase 20 poets worldwide; one book at a time.

Since that idea, they have not only provide an open platform to over 50 poets and writers worldwide but, they have also managed to provide an open platform to many individuals as they gain the recognition that they truly deserve for…

Fiordaliza's Bio

Fiordaliza has been a writer since an early age. She noticed her love for poetry at the age of 8 when she wrote her first poem entitled “ I can't speak your language” because some of her class mates teased her about her inability to speak English with out her Spanish accent and from that point on she wrote a poem for everything that she experienced.

Fiordaliza, became an author November of 2009 when she created three books from 150 original poems that she had…

A Study in Character

Many things I've learned over the years are self taught. When I worked as a graphic designer at a local newspaper, I was unfamiliar about the software being used to create advertising. Slowly, through the months, I discovered new things to be done with the program others hadn't.

So it was with writing. I didn't know anything about outlining, or formatting, or even too much editing, but throughout the years, I developed a system that worked for me. When I started writing my…

Oh no, not another new story!

My lovely husband said to me last night, "You know what the world needs, a new spin on Robin Hood. Like you've done with Lancelot, but maybe less sex."

He hates bankers and see this as a way of righting wrongs or maybe writing wrongs.

Now, the less sex I can't guarantee, it sort of writes itself, but he has a point. We need a new Robin Hood which the next generation can use as a role model. Let's face it can't be any worse than that mash up of…

Entry in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest!

I'm entering "Legends of the Lake' in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest. Here's my pitch--Any comments?

Family vacation…visions of camp grounds, roller coasters, and long drives through the darkness of night may come to mind. All of us at one time or another have spent time together as a family, whether you want to admit it or not.

Tales of Al Capone,…

Action Verbs Good. Nominalizations Bad.

What are nominalizations?

Nominalizations are the noun forms of action verbs, as seen here:

Sample action verbs - Corresponding nouns

illustrate – illustration

fail – failure

react – reaction

announce – announcement

increase (v.) – increase (n.)

Why are they bad, and how do I fix them?

Nominalizations have…

About me

Hi All,

I've recently joined Authors.com and I'm so excited about being a part of the community.  I'm the author of the Evolution Trilogy, a YA Fantasy trilogy about angels and demons, not in the biblical sense, but in the we-evolved-from-humans sense!  The first book is called Angel Evolution, see below for a synopsis.  It's available on Amazon in print and anywhere e-books are sold :)

First contact

Hello.

I'm Ged. I have just joined up.

I'm not sure what it's all about, but really what I'm looking for is some sort of re-action to my efforts at writing a novel. It is the next logical thing to do after recording in excess of 105000 words. I need to know whether its a load of old drivel or if there is any merit in my creation.

What a day!

Well, in the UK it's nearly 6 pm and the old brainpan is starting to give up the ghost.

Today has been an exciting day, as I've been taking part in Steve Norris' plan for ebook promotion. It's gone well. At one point I was #45 in Historical fiction in the UK and my US numbers are improving constantly.

Indie authors often receive a bad press, we are publishing in a new environment and often those who have conventional publishing contracts are…

THE END - Finally

I can't quite believe it. One year in the writing of this story and I was finally able today to type the words THE END on my second book. I now feel like a writer. It shouldn't have taken a year to write but if you work for a living then writing has to play second fiddle to life's priorities. But still a year is ok.

It's a remarkable feeling to finally grasp the end of the story. To know that the story has a beginning, middle and an end. That the idea you started out with, might have…

The Fun in Writing

It's a relief to complete a manuscript, especially one you've worked on for 2 years and 3 months. Since I've been writing I learned you have to write, and rewrite, and re-rewrite your manuscript to check for typos, book flow, and to make your work better.

As a writer I share a common feeling of satisfaction when I've completed a manuscript for editing. But that doesn't mean the work stops there. There are manuscript changes to accept or delete, book covers to work on, marketing your…

Bookshops

I had my first venture into the High Street today armed with my book in the hope of persuading Waterstones and Smiths to order copies of Whispers on the Wind, and hopefully allow me to do a book signing.

I am not good at promoting myself and found the task very daunting. Waterstones were  pleasant but the manager who deals with this wasn't there. So, I left my business card with a copy of Whispers on the Wind, took the name of the person concerned and have instructions to call back in…

Lancelot and the Wolf promotion day.

Those who follow me on FB will already know if they've looked, but yesterday I finished book four in the Knights of Camelot series. Yeah me!

One good thing about knowing the characters so well , it certainly comes fast when it happens. It's just hitting those right notes and all of a sudden you have a symphony in your head.  Poor Lancelot, I've torn him a part so many times but I firmly believe he's a better man for the experience....

...or am I beginning to sound like his…

Spotlight Interview with Author Stacy Eaton

Q1: Thanks for participating in our Authors.com Spotlight Interview series, Stacy! Please introduce yourself and your book to help our readers get to know you.

I write using the name of Stacy Eaton. Due to my profession, I felt it necessary to be a bit quiet about who I really am. The first book that I wrote is called “My Blood Runs Blue”. It is a suspenseful Paranormal Romance set in a small township. The main character is a police officer who is investigating…
