Living in the moment

Living in the Moment I walked along the small wooden bridge that weaved its way through a thicket of trees. The lamps that bordered the outside lit everything just enough so I could see where I was going. The sun had just gone down and the sky was as clear as ever. I didn't bother to bring a notebook or anything. I didn't feel like writing. All I really wanted to do was relax. The sky was so clear and the stars seemed so big that when I looked out my window after dinner I got tempted into…

3 Strategies to Make Bad Information Sound Good

Sometimes, things are not as good as you expect. Sometimes, the truth hurts. Sometimes, you are not perfect. And you have to write about it. These three strategies will help you write about bad, or embarrassing, information in a way that makes the bad information sound better than it is. You need to tell the truth; that's a given. This Life

Human nature of indifference,

Truth IS stranger than Fiction

In real life, when we hear of someone doing something bizarre or out of character, we often wonder, “What on earth possessed him to do that?” And, if we know the person, we might even think “That’s not like him.” But, since we know that he did it, we have no choice but to shrug our shoulders, shake our heads, accept it…

A short Interview with Jack Myers. A character that appears in Dark Mist and the upcoming novel The Sandman Never Sleeps both by SR Clowes.

SR Clowes    Hi Jack, thank you for agreeing to this interview, I know how protective you are over your privacy.

Love Hurts on Valentines Day

I have to say I apologise for the title of my post, but you must forgive me! Actually, I understand love shouldn't hurt on Valentines Day. In fact it should be a beautiful celebration of our love for each other, whether we are in long-term comfortable relationships, or shorter developing ones. I am simply offering a view of Valentines Day from the perspective of my paranormal romance novel Love Hurts.

Personally I am not celebrating Valentines Day this year. My husband and me…

Fear, Part 1

As the first anniversary of the publication of Night Shadows approaches (February 16), I want to present two blogs regarding fear.

I once read an article stating how fear is an acronym for False Evidence Against Reality. The article went on to discuss how most fears aren’t as devastating when the reality of the situation is revealed.

Are there any Scrivener users aboard authors.com?  With the Windows release of the product, I was pleased to finally get a chance to try it out while revising short stories for my L.A. Limo Tales collection. Must say that I've barely scratched the surface of its capabilities but I'm very pleased with its ability to produce clean e-book files in all the major formats.  It looks to be an excellent writer's tool and it's…

Identifying with our Characters

When writing the first of my period dramas, a historical novel set in the wilds of the Australian bush, I brought back to mind the years of living on isolated properties in the middle of nowhere. This is my personal story about a party-line telephone which we really needed on occasions.

The telephone wire was very simply strung from tree to tree; being…
