The First Contact Of Love ...A short sci-fi story by Chuck Keyes

The First Contact Of Love

A short sci-fi story by Chuck Keyes

From across Betty Bee's Antique Store, Brad Campbell noticed a beautiful tall woman. Her brunette hair runs down to beyond the center of her back, her Anime-like gold eyes are exceptionally appealing, and her figure would make any man…

People are strange...

I think you'll all agree that we all have our foibles, things that we do that make us the individuals we are.  Take me, for example.  It's a little known fact that I have to rock myself to sleep at night.  An activity my mother had always hoped I'd grow out of - a hope my other half is still clinging to to this day.  Of course, I'm pleased to say that my particular foible is confined to the privacy of my own bedroom and compared to many of the goings on in many another sleeping quarter, it…

I declared war on that pain.

Life strange and twisted ways somehow opened the door for me and passed me into another reality. I got rid of that pain by refusing to keep it. I threw it away and focused on my path to success.

I have no hate or resentment and I am working on that little anger I feel. I hold and cherish my dreams and continue to believe in me and you but really I believe in me and I.

That is all that it takes to be happy because I desire to be and have fun no matter what cruelty…

Don't judge a book by its cover

So this co-worker comes up to me and asks if I want to read her mom's new book that was just released in Aug. I give her a blank look, and am silently thinking in my head. Okay, if the book sucks, I'll be forced to say nice things about it for the duration of both our employment here. I'm still hesitant about it, then she says it's free. I'll give you a free copy, and you can be like one of those reviewers, and just tell me honestly what you think.

I'm still hesitant, because now I…

Writing for Children...

Okay, I'm working on a children's book, but i'm not sure what words I can use.  When I was a kid, cartoons suggested that children had brains. Starting with my own kids, cartoons were being dumbed down.  The last time I watched modern cartoons, they were making cartoons for preteens, that sounded more like cartoons for 4 year olds.  This makes it hard for me to know what words I can use, and expect my audience to comprehend.

The children's book I am working on, I guess is…

Don't cha hate it when you're in the middle of writing a book and you get stuck? sometimes I just wait a few days- maybe even a week until my subconscious works it out-- how about anyone else?

Getting On The Air

I am involved with a new Christian radio station preparing to go on the air in Central Florida. As this is a non-profit, it will rely heavily on volunteers and pledges.

WTYG 91.5 FM will broadcast out of Sparr, FL, but we still need a little help. Maybe you've heard of Kickstarter? It's a…

This Treat is No Trick

It is no secret that I like Horror stories. I like dark, creepy things like

those under your bed. As I have said repeatedly, Halloween is my favorite

holiday. I'd say I still get dressed up, but I don't look much different than

the rest of the year.

With that being said, I knew I wanted to

participate in Trestle

Press' Harbinger of Horror
month-long celebration. I wanted to do it… Continue

Sometimes.

Sometimes I feel a deep pain in my heart.

Sometimes it hurt so bad to find myself a victim of multiple crimes.

Sometimes, I am sick and tired of telling others about it risking my whole being.

Sometimes, I do not believe that my soul mate exists or that I am part of everybody.

Sometimes I cry and there is no one to hold my hand ever.

So today I declared war on that pain.

I Have an Idea

Well, I did have an idea. A little while ago, I created a story about two unsuspecting fourth graders that suddenly find themselves in the middle of some serious, high-tech, international espionage. It is now available from Trestle Press.…

Behind the cover of Words from my Mouth-Person Addiction...

When the publisher explained to me that the cover of the book could be a work of mine and what I wanted I didn't have to think twice at what the cover had to be. Saying this, there was no guarantee that they would approve what I wanted. It was an option and if the artist could draw what the author was explaining in just a couple of sentences then the publisher could be sold on the author's idea.

When they sent me my cover for approval I was shocked. There was no doubt the…

When Chocolate's Not Enough

With three women sharing this year's Nobel Peace Prize for their part in fighting for women's rights, I thought I'd share my very first piece of published writing with you - and very apt it seems, too.

It's a poem I wrote for the anthology 'When Chocolate's not Enough' (2001) edited by Heather Killingray and although it now feels a little naive, not only does its message still resonate with many women today, it's the very piece of writing that gave me the confidence to finally follow…
