That would be a lot of work but if you're willing to do so, I'm willing to provide a source for you. :) You can find everything you would need to know about the US copyright law here: http://www.copyright.gov/

What's the law like in India? Is there much difference at all?

There are many US authors and also some editors and publishers here, ss. Ask away and we'll help if we can too. Copyright law-American copyright law anyway-is a hard thing to pin down, I'll say that much. Some of it is open to interpretation and fairly vague. Anything very complicated really needs the advice of a copyright lawyer. Try us! :)
thank you very much.i think vagueness exist everwhere. still there are certain aspects which are very clear.many rights enjoyed by you in US are non-existent in India. for example we do not get adequate royalty. in many cases no rayalty is paid at all.

Really? I didn't know that. That's too bad. How does a writer make any money then?

I'm assuming you're talking about books. It's different again here if you write say an article for a magazine. There are many different kinds of rights you can give them.

He wants himself to be known in the creative field. At the same time, the awareness to struggle for our dues is also spreading and i hope better days are in store in future. but it is going to be long struggle. that is the reason we are trying to find out the concrete rights enjoyed by our brothers and sisters in other countries.regards
