small things were ignored

little feelings started to grow

little i know when i met you before

Still Waiting!

This is just to say hello and I'm more or less still alive, but partly from ill health, partly from particularly intense stress and partly because I'm still waiting for a piece of news, I've been incommunicado.  Has anyone else with long-term health problems had kind friends asking if you're now able to spend all that free time writing, when actually getting a cup of tea is a bit of a struggle?  I do have previously completed work in the bank, as it were, and a work in progress whose entire…

'I demand you match this online price!'

“Why not ask me to give you the product for free?”

In my latest novel, ‘Who’s Minding the Store?’ Derrick Payton faces customers who want him to match online retailer prices. The scenario you read in my book is all too real in every business across the country. Now why do you suppose businesses can’t match online prices?

Derrick handles the situation fine in my book. I’ve found myself explaining to customers how brick-and-mortar businesses can’t afford to match…

This is for the children

As an author and father, one of my driving passions is to help children, especially those that do not have help. One small thing I am trying is eBay Giving Works. I have listed a paperback copy of The Empyrical Tales Book I: The Fourth Queen on eBay and set it up to donate 90% of the sale to …

Why I Write

I grew up in East Los Angeles with my grandparents and younger brother. My parents, living in Chino where I reside now, were always busy with work, and had no time to take care of us. My father was a trucker, and Mom was, and still is, a supervisor for the Southern California Gas Company. We would visit them on the weekends, but during the week it was just me and my twin-brother with the grandparents.

We didn't have much to do there, and the internet wasn't out. My brother was very…

Why I Write

I think for most people, their vocation or avocation usually derives from personal interest or enjoyment. A person enjoys helping children, so becomes a teacher. Somebody fascinated with ancient history studies to be an archeologist. If you grew up really wanting to solve people’s burning pee issue, then your earned your degree in urology.

For me, writing began because…

Time to face the Music

Time to own up to why I wrote ‘Who’s Minding the Store?’

My latest novel is a comedy about retail. The main character is an operations assistant manager who suddenly finds himself promoted to store manager on his first day after being transferred to a new store. But he has no time to celebrate when his district manager declares, “You’ve got one week…

Do your job...or else!

I know I’m not the only one surprised at the piss-poor behavior we see from co-workers. It’s always the same people consistently late to work, or absent when things need to be done or when a customer needs help, all of the above. To our utter amazement it’s these same people who complain about their job, but do nothing in the way of looking for another job that would please them. At some point they even have the gall to ask for a raise, and then gripe to you when management denies them one.…

So Far Genre Fusion is Working for Me - a NaNoWriMo Tale of Success in Progress

Writing a story and touching on so many different genres has been both surprising and intoxicating as I’ve learned just how much I am capable of achieving when I put all my energy and skills into making it work. Drawing in romance while so much horror is taking place, then…

Does Genre Fusion Work - and is it Wise?

I’m finally done with my week-long dance show and now I can get stuck into my writing again and catch up for NaNoWriMo. I’m excited about this novel because it’s new territory for me.

“Write what you know,” I’ve heard countless times in my short writing career, and I…
