Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

Once again I've written another crappy story, I really don't know what to do! I used to be so enthusiastic about writing but now I'm losing interest in it. I wanted to do so much with it. I always daydreamed about receiving an award for best selling series of the year or most inspirational writer but I could hardly write a good story. The last story I wrote entitled "The Hunter's Son" was supposed to be my best work after months of thinking and effort but it was no different from any of my other stories. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

I sometimes think of maybe becoming an actress instead. That dream does seem more visible than becoming a writer.  When I perform in front of my class, I sometimes get that standing ovation. I admit it was fun acting but it didn't give me the pleasure I had when writing. Writing a great story can be hard but not impossible. I'm sure a lot of you writers out there are having the same problem as me. Not sure if writing suits you, not sure if writing is what you want to do with your life, or maybe you want to dream a different dream since there are probably other easier things to do with your life.

I almost forgot the reason why I wanted to be a writer in the first place. Reading the many literature pieces I've seen in authors.com posted by other amateur writers who are probably struggling to write a book that can sell or something people would like makes me feel so selfish, like a hypocrite.

I believe that writers play an important role in this world especially in entertainment. I wanted to be a part of it, I wanted to be part of the World of Literature.

I think you're born to be in a creative field, that's for sure Marieh. :) You're being overly hard on yourself, I think. And I don't know that acting would be any easier a profession to pursue and get that big break in than writing is! Give yourself some room to think and don't make any rash decisions. Sounds to me like you're a bit burned out so just let it all go for a week or two and then come back to it when you're more relaxed. A break can do you the world of good and recharge your batteries.

You said something about performing in front of your class. Are you a student or a teacher?

And I'd rather write than be an actress. I think writers at least manage to hold onto their private lives more easily.

I would want to write, not act. Now if you'd asked me if I wanted to be a singer, that would have been a different story. :)

You could always post an excerpt here on your blog or in a new thread if you want feedback. If you do, please be clear now on how honest you want it to be or if you just want a good/bad response! (Some people don't really want constructive criticism.)

I'd rather be a writer. There is a limit to what someone can do as an actor and I'd rather not have to deal with too many people. I'm not a very sociable person and I'm more likely to turn to the director and say "Are you serious!?" then do whatever he tells me off the bat.
