Permalink Reply by Callie Leah on June 9, 2010 at 2:20am I'd want immediate release. That way I'd get to promote it to the hilt and to spend the money I made from it LOL. He must have worried about upsetting a lot of people!
And did you know Callie that his pen name was actually a boating term used to define water depth? True story. :) He was a Mississippi River pilot.
Permalink Reply by scribbler on June 11, 2010 at 10:50pm Wow, really? When I joined this site, I thought it would help me with my writing, but what do you know. I've probably learned more here than I would at any other site! :)

Permalink Reply by Callie Leah on June 14, 2010 at 6:33pm I knew that! :) "Mark twain" meant it was "mark two", which signified a two fathom depth. Trivia like that seeps into my brain. See, now you're all prepared for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Callie. :)

Permalink Reply by scribbler on June 27, 2010 at 5:07am The unpublished "A Family Sketch" was a 64-page, handwritten manuscript that Twain wrote around 1896 or 1897 for Olivia "Susy" Clemens, who inspired some of his stories and even wrote her own biography of her father. The document also reminisced about his own childhood and was described as the missing chapter of his autobiography.
"What initially began as a tribute to his late -- and undisputed favorite -- daughter Susy thus devolved into a narrative that encompasses the whole of this family and friends as well as glimpses of incidents of his own childhood," auctioneer Sotheby's said in a statement.
Personally, I would want mine to be released right after my death was confirmed. I would be too afraid to upset people if I was still alive and well and it got released. And, with any luck, there would more then likely be a bunch of media hounds at my door and who wants their last years to go by being pestered by the media?
As for his pen name: Learn something new every day...lol.
@ Callie: I think we could all use a million dollars. :)

A good man was '2 fathoms'...

Permalink Reply by Kay Elizabeth on November 1, 2011 at 2:09pm And you being a man of the sea too, Sean. Shame on you. ;)
I'm kidding. It's not out yet. The last lines of the article say Nov, so it should be any time. That's one for the Christmas wishlist! :)
But don't bother waiting in line just yet to buy your copy. Twain's autobiography doesn't hit store shelves until November.
