I would like to practice my writing, using short stories, but I am not sure if what I write is actually a short story or simply a page of writing that needs more to round it out. I know a story has a…Continue

Hi Lisa, I am working on a crime/mystery about a real cold case of a missing young girl. I just finished a class at Gotham Writers with a great group of classmates. You can find me on FB under Sandra Bausch, I think anyway.

It's amazing how much difference a tweak here and there can make. I think that's excellent, Sandra. It gives me a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye at the end, it really does, Bravo.

Your welcome Sandra. I believe it is a beginning. One that you should go through again and re-think. There is a lot to be said about where this might go, but its up to you as the creative force to put it all together and have It make sense

Thank you Michael for taking the time to comment on my piece. I was going for a stand alone, a flash fiction sort of piece, but it looks like I missed the mark. I not have a whole story story just a beginning. Is that right?

I like where you are going with this. However, I believe if you continue with such detailed revelation in each sentence, the reader may get caught up in trying to swallow the detail and end up losing interest in the story line. I think if you tone…

Thank you Scribbler, for taking the time to respond, I will rework it and re-post it as well. I think I might have posted it twice, maybe in the blog section too, I think. I am new to posting, but understand downloading restrictions.

Critiques Please

I am looking for critiques of my writings. I am prepared for strong criticism and guidance and thoughts on work.Ineed to know if what I am writing are short stories with a beginning, middle and end, or are they a portion of something larger, which needs me to flesh out to accomplish this. The house sat quiet, awaiting its family to awaken, outside in trees, birds conversed among themselves hoursbefore the sunlight slivers in the woodlands thrust warmth and light to earth and daytime to the front…See More

Thank you Kay Elizabeth for welcoming me.

My interest is true crime and missing girls of the 1950's. I am one of several researchers involved with Silvia Pettem and her book, Someone Daughter, A Search of Justice for Jane Doe in which we were able to help identify not only her murderer but to locate her family with matching DNA.

My own story is about missing ten-year old Connie Smith who walked away from summer camp in 1952 never to be found, her story is linked to the found remains of Little Miss X found in 1954, misplaced for more than 40 years yet recently discovered and are now being tested for DNA match to at least three missing women of that time.

True crime stories are fascinating. What interesting work you do and congratulations on such an achievement! It must take an emotional toll too. How do you not get emotionally involved with a case or do you let that happen?

I can't think of anything more tragic than for a child's remains to be finally recovered and no one knowing who she is. Thank goodness for DNA testing nowadays. When are the results expected in for those 1954 remains, any idea? My heart goes out to those three families waiting.

This was a cold case of over 50 years and since we did not know of the family, it was more of a informational hunt. Not having direct contact with the family myself, who's DNA matched the Jane Doe, I could keep my emotional distant. I was very happy that "we" solved the mystery, it a bittersweet ending to the families search. I have to say that while we did a lot of Internet searching it was the website of Boulder Jane Doe that brought one member of the family to find the answer to her family tragic story.

We're on to the next one, a missing young girl from California who disappeared with her boyfriend in 1958. Her remains may have been located in AZ in the fall of 1958 but the boyfriend's remains may have just been located this year. We will not know until the DNA results are returned. Meanwhile it is still a search of information. And of course there is the Connie Smith case, a ten year old girl who walked away from summer camp, never to be seen again. What happened is anyone guess.
