How much talent do you need to be a good writer compared to having the ability to hone your craft through education? Is it possible for a writer to learn enough to overcome a lack of talent or must the writer always have talent as a foundation to become a published author?

I think I answered my own question when I saw a book in the store today. It consisted of nothing but fart jokes. Must the writer always have talent as a foundation to become a published author? Heck, no LOL. :)
