Introduction.

"Dusk sets high on Bunbury Hollows. The leaves are moist, refracting the weather-worn energies of a sun, poised, yet casting shadows suggesting an apology for the impending transition that lies ahead. The resplendent memories of summer glories are now in the past, as the long drawn out nights of autumn and winter seem an inevitable fate. This winter season there is much work to be achieved.

Captain English emerges, ears burning from the extremities of the hovel. David English is a perpetual innovator, a courageous team leader and unassuming visionary of the Bunbury clan, whose kingdoms now extend significantly into double figures.

‘Bunbury Mansions’ are at the centre of D. English Esquire’s kingdom, a home base interlocking a multitude of hollows, providing an HQ in which his numerous medals and silverware trophies are displayed triumphant. It is from within the confines of this well-crafted crater that he actualised a truly galvanising conception, born of uncompromising ambition, a plot hatched by the new Bunbury aristocracy. The cast of legendary philanthropists comprises Captain English, Ian Buntham, and music maestros Eric Claptonbury and William Wyman of William Perks Burrows. Together these great names have married the areas of show business, sport and sound commerce, sharing an ultimate goal to create a fairer society based on a doctrine of the joys of music, charity and cricket.

They resolved early on that there were to be no animals ‘more equal than others’, thus pioneering a curriculum involving the nurturing and coaching of the good Bunbury citizen from youth. There are no specific requirements for Bunbury citizens, no winners and no losers. Most bunnies are however blessed with charisma and a love of the qualities of determination, passion, emotion and commitment in life. “Work hard and you’ll get success. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary”, preaches Captain English, frequently to his starry-eyed young pretenders...

The Bunbury Conquests & Beneficiaries.

The Bunburys have indeed touched our lives and put dough on the tables of the sick and needy, the clan are outlaw mavericks who will stop at little to eliminate suffering from their number. The Bunbury bunny team have targeted beneficiaries from Cranleigh Village Hospice and ‘Make-A –Wish’ to The Crossroads, Antigua for the continuation of their odyssey in aid of major charities. May there be no end to the creation of this utopian dream expressed through generous hearts and an irrepressible spirit. Rest assured that the Bunbury's virtuous crusade will continue resolute. Indeed the Bunbury dynasty is not set in stone, but burrowed deep within the ground on which we tread, on the green fields of English stately homes, cricket grounds and Palaces in the United Kingdom."

New Kindle Publication on David English.

The above chapter 'Nocture Images' is abridged and forms a bonus fictional chapter from the new special edition publication on David English. The Kindle book encompasses a compendium of collectable connoisseur’s features, reports and interviews themed on Dr. David English, RSO Records and 26 years of the Bunbury pro-celebrity Cricket Club. Bunbury Cricket was founded in 1986 by Dr. David English and originally comprised the ‘Eric Clapton X1’. The Bunbury cricket project has been supported over time by an unprecedented aggregation of music, showbiz and sporting personalities including Bill Wyman, Sir Ian Botham, Viv Richards, Barry Gibb, Eric Clapton and Joanna Lumley. To date, the Bunburys have raised over 15 million for major charities such as Leukaemia Research, Make-A-Wish and the Crossroads Centre, Antigua. The Bunbury Cricket team enjoyed their Silver Anniversary in 2011.

The overall appeal of this personal memoir on the career of David English is that of a nostalgic almanac or collector’s special edition biography. The material has been assimilated by the author as a labour of love and is a gift to the Bunbury Cricket Club. Content includes detailed interviews with David on his career as ex-President of RSO Records and there is also a collection of illustrative features on both RSO and the Bunburys.

The book title pays homage to David English and illustrator Jan Brychta’s innovative children’s book series, the 'Bunbury Tails’. The text provides plenty of substance for lovers of David’s quintessentially English, eccentric Bunbury C.C. and is equally informative for those curious in respect to the under documented biographical aspects of Robert Stigwood’s archetypal RSO Records.

Footnote:

*Inspiration for this chapter is from the introductory text to 'Watership Down' by Richard Adams, originally published by Rex Collings (1972) and the classic 'Animal Farm', George Orwell, (1945).  Not forgetting of course David English's 'Bunbury Tails', Arthur Barker Ltd. (1986); all continuing rich sources of inspiration.
