A Blur resembling a tiny strawberry blonde girl in pink pajamas ran and jumped into the bed as fast as she could. “Beat you” she boasted as Vivian moved closer towards the bed. Vivian pulled the covers up over her and kissed her softly on the forehead “Goodnight sweetheart”.  Vivian didn’t think it would go as smoothly as it did. Up until today they had a routine; race to bed, tuck in the covers, ask for a story, check for monsters under the bed, close the closet door, and then attempt to escape the room. She was just about to the part where Lyric asked for a bedtime story when the little girl’s words shocked her. “Do you think my real parents lubbed me” Lyric asked. Vivian was about to respond when suddenly she heard her alarm clock going off. She opened her eyes and remembered Lyric was coming home from college today.

She raced to her closet to begin her morning routine. In all this time the only thing that seems to have changed is the fact that she isn’t trying dress Lyric as well. As she dashed from the closet to the bed several times; she would frequently check the clock. Each time growing more and more concerned about how much time she had wasted. Her long brown curls bounced happily with each step. Her mind began to wonder in a other directions as she shifted her path from the bed to the vanity mirror. Her thoughts streamed at lightning speeds, and soon escaped her mouth; “Werewolves, elves, vampires, furies. Oh, how the list goes on” She stopped and looked at herself in the mirror “Get it together, Vivi. They might be monsters, but they’re family too.” She reassured the reflection in the mirror.

Kristoff had been standing in the doorway watching her anxious behavior; he was always amused when she got nervous. “You forgot succubus in your list of creatures” he mocked. She glared at him through the mirror. His blow shirt grabbed her attention; she loved the way blue brought out his eyes. She broke her gaze with his as she opened the drawer of the vanity to get a tube of lipstick. Just as she was about to apply one last touch of scarlet to her lips she heard the car pull in to the front of the house. “Oh hell, they’re early!” She dropped the tube and raced to peek out the window. She could see Lyric’s strawberry curls glimmering through the moon roof of the car.

Kristoff walked up behind her.  “It’s just Lyric, OUR Lyric, she is not going to care what you look like” he reassured her. Vivian spun around and gave him a go to hell look. Flustered at his comment she began to spout furiously, “She has been at the university for nearly four years. No calls except when she needs money, no holiday visits, and now we are meeting this guy she is bringing home. You think I’m worried about what I look like? You would think after 100 years together you would know I get dressed because I wake up. As for worried, I’m worried she is pregnant, dropping out of school, or something worse”.   Kristoff stepped closer to her to try and calm her down. She stared at him waiting for him to respond.  He just shrugged his shoulders and began to exit the room. “I’ll see you downstairs” he grinned, as he left. As she searched for her tube of lipstick she noticed it had fallen next to an old book. “There be monsters” she said reading the cover. “How ironic” she huffed as she removed the lid of the tube.
