“Pale Horse” is not a story that has anything to do with Native Americans, no, instead it is the beginning of a new detective series from J.E. Seymour. Tracey Greene is the reluctant private investigator and she knows horses and the stables. That is a good thing because almost the entire digital short story is set in and around a horse race track in New Hampshire. As I read the story I could smell the stables and hear the horses, well at least those that were alive.

Tracey Greene is an enjoyable heroine, even though she doesn’t know it yet. She is sucked into unraveling a scheme that is a bit more complicated than it looks at first. J.E. Seymour really brought the character and the atmosphere of the track to life for me. The sounds, the sights, the smells all came into being for me as she went through each one of them. I felt she was guiding me through the stables as she brought Tracey Greene around to question each and every suspect or person of interest. I applaud J.E. Seymour for her rich descriptive ability, her fun prose and her ability to craft another fine story.

Here is the synopsis for “Pale Horse”:

“Pale Horse" is a story about a missing racehorse that turns out to be more than it seems.  Tracey Greene is a private investigator who has more experience with horses than with actual crime.  When she starts looking for the missing horse, she finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery with the horse as the main suspect. “
