Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

Everyday there are many people on the Internet that sit at their desk or behind their laptop and think that today is the day that I will write an ebook. This is not going to be a successful ebook, because it takes time, research and planning. However, some people only think of the access they have with the Internet, while not having to face the public and take that as meaning they do not need to do the same amount of research.

Writing an ebook in any genre takes the planning and research that it would take for any book that is being published if it is going to have any success. There are hundreds of ebooks on the Internet that were written with no planning and no research, and they see little or no sales because of this. People that read ebooks expect the same amount of care put into the writing as they do from a book they would purchase in a book store.

The Internet gives writers and authors new advantages, even the new writer that could be a prize winning author can have a difficult time being traditionally published. This happens as publishing houses and agents do not always trust the sales a new author will have and do not want to assume the risk. This makes ebook publishing one of the easiest and fastest ways to reach readers, along with the fact that the author has complete control of their book. There is also the cover which must be considered, this can be done by a designer or with the use of programs designed to make book covers.

This presents several problems, being in full control of an ebook means finding the right outlet for providing it to the public, formatting the book into readable content and publicizing the ebook. The first problem of providing it to the public can be done in several ways, the first is by using a site that has an online book store that specifically deals in ebooks. This means for a fee they will list your book, show the cover and have a few details explaining the book, this can include an author’s bio. The second way to sell an electronic book online is to have a website from which people can purchase the book and download it. By doing this the writer will also need either to have experience with websites and downloads or hire a designer.

The next thing that will be needed is to promote the book; this can be done in several ways over the Internet. Promotion can be done using social networking sites, newsletters and also by providing a little free reading on a website or in newsgroups the author belongs to. This can be done by showing select pages to entice readers to purchase the book. The most important thing about this part of having a book online is to plan the promotion, because this will determine how well the book sells. Books only sell no matter how they are published if the public knows they are there, a book that does not have promotion can go without sales for years since readers do not know it exists.

I was just wondering, but did you really mean to type "author's" as a plural term? I don't mean to offend you, you are a very skilled writer, but the proper plural term would be "authors".

I wish I had someone this close to edit my writing. I have so much coming out and so little time to make these little corrections.
