Hi there! So I am an Indie-Author and am heading out to my first event with the intent on promoting my novel. It is the Mermaid Convention And Awards in Las Vegas, to be held at the Mirage. I obviously haven't done anything like this before and would love to get some tips from some of you out there that have. Really, any little thing you think would be helpful. Thank you.

K.L., are you hoping to land an agent there? There's a very good video and tips on that here- Volume 1: How to Rope In An Agent (And How NOT To) at a Writers' Conference.

This is another good one: http://www.authors.com/video/how-to-make-the-perfect-pitch

If you share your goals more specifically, I think you'll get more guidance.

Are you taking any promotional materials with you? People love freebies at conventions. You need to have plenty of business cards too you can hand out.

If you have a cellphone with a camera, take pics of any business cards you're given. That way if you lose the card, you still have a picture with all the details.

Also if you see anything that really inspires you, whether it's a booth layout or really clever idea, take a picture. It's so easy to forget what you saw where and when at a large convention that you loved or struck you as eye-catching.

And wear comfortable shoes! :) You'll be on your feet all day. The main thing is to give off an approachable vibe and smile. That draws others to you, as does listening well. Have fun!

Thank you Kay Elizabeth. Good advise. I am hoping to make some connections there. I appreciate the links and will check them out on my next day off. :)

You're very welcome K.L. and please come back and tell us how it all went. I'd love to hear how you got on :)

And Kay's fine. It's less to type. :) Good luck with the trip!
