                            Stones

Contrasting with the green grass or the colored leaves of Fall

A stark white stone stands testament to those that gave their all

Brazen and bold it holds firm, barely three feet tall

The words are few engraved on it and yet they say it all

This tiny stone stands quiet, and yet it speaks so loud

It gives the branch of service he chose to serve so proud

It says a soldier lies here who loved his country so

He risked his life defending her and now God has his soul

It mentions not his family, his children or his wife

It merely means he loved them so; he served at risk of life

Resolute against the elements, giving reverence to the bold

Undeterred by Summer's heat or by the Winter's cold

It marks the grave where a soldier now, lies still beneath the sod

His soul set free to leave this Earth to go where Angels trod

He fought a valiant battle but now his time has come to rest

He leaves behind a people who through his efforts have been blessed

So let us not forget his love, or the gift of Freedom left behind

And let us keep their memory ever present in our mind

Then let us kneel and say a prayer, beside each stark white stone

That God be gentle with each soul and take our soldiers home

Thanks Keith, It's close to my heart also, I don't believe as a country we treat our Vets very well. Without them we would have nothing. Too often we take them for granted.
