Hi all

I am a ghost writer so I am enjoying your eerie tales on here.  This is how I write and I would like to know what you think.

The History and Ghosts of Porthcawl & District

By

Hayley Williams

Introduction

The controversial subject of ghosts, spirits and the afterlife has always fascinated me, so I decided to investigate the unusual occurrences on my own doorstep. To my astonishment, I found that Porthcawl has quite a reputation for ghostly apparitions and paranormal phenomena, and like many other towns and villages, has its own ghostly tales and legends as well as a colourful history.

Porthcawl itself is a seaside town in South Wales, sandwiched between Cardiff and Swansea.  Its coastline combines two villages on its outskirts, the oldest being Nottage, which has always been a bustling agricultural village, and was originally built on a small hill above the marshland.  A flowing stream nearby supplied water to the villagers, as did many natural wells.

Legend maintains that the Vikings and Irish Pirates were possibly the first inhabitants of Nottage.  They often circled the waters surrounding the dry hill, as the sea was further inland during those ancient times, and

Porthcawl is primarily a Victorian town, with the majority of its buildings constructed during the latter years of the Queen’s reign.  It is positioned on the coast between the cities of Cardiff and Swansea, and is combined with two other villages, namely Nottage and Newton, which are both older in terms of ancient dwellings, history, legends, and ghostly tales.

Porthcawl is a haven for tourism, with caravan parks, hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfast facilities on the doorstep to its many enticing attractions.

The Porthcawl Paranormal Team have been intrigued by the ghostly tales around the whole town and have enjoyed delving into the unknown by searching for the ghosts and spirits who are reported to reside throughout the area.

Newton was a port which is understood to have been discovered by the Romans.  Porthcawl was once primarily known for its agricultural settlements, and during the late 18th century became a town which was the brainchild of the Brogden family, and still displays some of the magnificent buildings from its Victorian past, although sadly many have now been demolished.

With such a diverse and interesting history, it is through my own belief and interest that Porthcawl’s unique and unexplained ghostly residents deserve to be recognized.

This is my 1st published book and I am currently working on the 2nd one to the series. The name of it is Untold Secrets: Fire & Ice. It is available on Amazon.com in e-book and paperback here is a description:

Arrianna Williams is an ordinary 25 yr. old woman or so she thinks. She has stumbled across a very special book and she soon sees just how special this book really is or at least she thinks she knows. The book comes to life and Arrianna is no longer reading the pages but is in the story herself.
Shortly after reading the book she runs into an old childhood friend Damian. She quickly falls for him but it doesn?t last long. Hurt; she finds comfort in another man. Thinking her life is completely normal, she soon finds out she has a special gift that puts her life in danger. An Archangel named Gabriel comes to her rescue but in turn things only get worse.
She is now being hunted for her gift and the man she sought comfort with is in desperate need of her to save his life. Meanwhile her feelings for Gabriel grow stronger as she wonders if he could be her true love.
Could this Angel ever love her the way she loves him? Will she defeat the fallen angel and demons after her? So many secrets so many lies and so much heartache will happen during her journey to discovering who she really is and what she was meant to do.

I like it.  This is a fantastic subject to write about, especially with halloween around the corner.  I like the descriptions of Arrianna's gift and the intrigue that you have to read more.

Hayley,

I am Merlin Fraser, author of the Inner Space trilogy of Murder Mystery stories all with a paranormal twist.  Like you I struggled for years to find an agent and a publisher, what a waste of time and effort that was.

You are no doubt aware that the whole book industry is in a state of chaos and for a new writer, no matter how good, to break into the traditional methods to market is now near impossible.

This is why so many new kids, like me, opted for the more direct approach of Self Publishing,  DON'T sign up with any of the Vanity Publishing sharks out there, that's not what i mean by self publishing.  I really mean you can do it yourself.

Let me know if you want to know more.

Zabrina,
One way to get your message out there,  this is one of the Do it Yourself methods I use to promote my books.

Thank you for the advice Merlin.  I have self published once and the book sold quite well.  But it is now a matter of cost.  As you said the book world is in chaos, and unfortunately cuts in pay here in Wales have made me abandon the self publishing.  Thanks again

Of course it depends very much on the type of service you require and how you want your work to get to your target audience.

The type of self publishing I use requires very little monetary investment, only time.   Once the book has been thoroughly proof-read and edited then the rest is reasonably easy by converting your book into a digital format.  Once there it can be uploaded to various places where you have the choice of turning it into an E Book or if you require actual print copies then once in digital format you can use PoD or print on demand.

Sounds like you went to one of the Vanity Publishing houses, like Authorhouse and probably got burnt.
