I am writing a Medieval novel and I need some assistance. Basically things to be careful for in this genre. It follows a young King, forced  to take his deceased fathers place. War is upon them. I have done a good amount of research on my own but it couldn't hurt to have a helpful hand.

I'd be glad to be a sounding board for you. It sounds like we write about pretty much the same thing. I like to add in magic to the mix though - sometimes.

im sorry, but what is a sounding board?

Someone you can bounce ideas off of.

Discription of all the surroundings and characters are needed in the genre. Have you seen Lord of the Rings or read the books. Discription is the key. Some readers don't like over discription but in this book you are going to have to set up the scenes as well as the characters. Every little thing helps. I believe this genre is in the 90-100,000 word area. So move slow and precise.

Yeah, I am on the third chapter. Ive focused mostly on dialogue but I'm going to go back after I'm finished the book and work on better description.

I'm working on a book in which I have written six or seven chapters. I needed to go back to chapter two for a slight change and I have been there for weeks. Sometimes the surrounding discription is needed as I go, thus making the chapters ahead more powerful. My first book, which I'm sending out to agents right now, I did as you stated, I wrote the book and then in the rewrite fixed a lot of things however, I learned from that and making the changes as I go, I am finding, is much easier. Keep writing!!!

Might be useful to join  a group dealing in Medieval history for the purpose of the novel. That type of group or writers of Medieval novels will know a lot of the pitfalls. It might help(although already jumping ahead) to know will you seek out an agent, a publisher or publish yourself.
