Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

Does anyone else suffer that feeling of bereavement when the work is all done and the book(s) have left your safe clutches and gone off to make their own way in the world? I love the preparation for publication: proof-checking, cover choosing and detail sorting, but there's such an empty space left when the 'children' leave home and seem to have nothing to do with you any more.  The obvious remedy is to create another one, but that's easier said than done . . .an army of designated naggers never goes amiss, but I have to cope with the irony of enforced time but health isues that affect memory and concentration as well as limiting physical possibilities. Our peers will know that you need stamina to write, it does not flow by magic.  In the meantime there's that empty place in the brain nursery, but some compensation in the new volumes on the shelf.
