Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

Hi all!

I wonder if anyone would like to help me out? I'm fairly new here, and I've recently written a book (it's not a great paving slab of a thing, and is still in progress) and I'm thinking of perhaps trying to get published. The problem is, I don't really have an exact audience. I asked around my friends, and my best friend said that it was most likely a book for (particularly mad) teenagers, and another of them said it could be anything depending on how you thought about it (accept a children's book, obv.). It is a dark romance, but I was aiming as far away from the Stephanie Meyer steriotype as possible, so it is set in 1899 in an alternate reality. Also, it would be great to hear from some experienced writers as to how I can maybe improve.

The entirity of the current version of the book is on my blog: http://deadnightofficial.blogspot.com/

So if anyone could spare a while to give me a hand, that'd be great.

Thanks!

Well, I didn't get too far into it, but to stray from Ms. Meyer...you did. Well done! When I first started reading though, I thought Twilight mimic, but when I read on, I realized this wasn't any twilight mimic. Way to go-new idea. I like the way you give us the end first, and then explain why we see what we see in the beginning. I liked the description of what the victim was feeling, and the hurried desire for death instead of torture. Unfortunately, I don't have time to continue, but from what I have read, you are on the right track. Don't ever doubt what you do, and don't take the criticism of others too heavily or with more merit than deserved. You have to remember that you are writing from your heart. The way to write is a matter of the author, and that is your style. In a sense, you have to write almost as if you are a pro at it, but still be humble enough to accept when your wrong. Again only listening to your editor or agent if you have one. Trust me. I have a hard time listening to them, which is probably why I went self publishing. Any way...keep writing. I do. Above all, you have to remember that all authors get into it because we have an addiction for diction and verbiage. We love to abuse the rules and break 'em because we can. And, follow when we have to do that too. Anyway, I think I am rambling, but I think you get the point. I guess the last thing I can say is that you have to keep in mind that there are so many story tellers out there. You are in a race to win that writing gold. Good luck in your lane for I am in mine.

Sincerely,

GD Thompson, Sr.
