Post-partum depression

Does anyone else suffer that feeling of bereavement when the work is all done and the book(s) have left your safe clutches and gone off to make their own way in the world? I love the preparation for publication: proof-checking, cover choosing and detail sorting, but there's such an empty space left when the 'children' leave home and seem to have nothing to do with you any more.  The obvious remedy is to create another one, but that's easier said than done . . .an army of designated naggers…

New Edition of Peace on Earth has come out

Glory hallelujah, lift a glass/teacup/slice of cake and celebrate that the new edition of Peace on Earth is back in print as of this very morning - the e-book came out last month.  It's very slightly different from the first version, but only in minor detail.  I've been using my limited resources on getting all three of the current books in the series newly or once again before the paying public, so haven't had much thought for blogging, I'm afraid.  The first in the series and last to come…

The new Delos book is out at last!

Rites of Succession has finally seen the light of day!  I was expecting it to appear last year, but there were snags and in the end I had to go with a different publisher - but here we are at long last.  The Kindle version came out last week and the paperback will appear in September.  These will be followed by new editions of the first two volumes (The Politics of Illusion and Peace on Earth).  Thanks for waiting Jane McCaa fans and I hope you enjoy…

Still Waiting!

This is just to say hello and I'm more or less still alive, but partly from ill health, partly from particularly intense stress and partly because I'm still waiting for a piece of news, I've been incommunicado.  Has anyone else with long-term health problems had kind friends asking if you're now able to spend all that free time writing, when actually getting a cup of tea is a bit of a struggle?  I do have previously completed work in the bank, as it were, and a work in progress whose entire…

Bad Times for Human Beings

Actually, no this isn't about dystopic fiction but dystopic fact.  I've just had notice today that our benevolent British government (and I voted for them) will be reassessing me as part of their campaign to prove that there is no such thing as illness or disability so forget all those years paying National Insurance just exactly in case you should fall ill.  It's a grim time, and some of the stories of hardship, desperation and even deaths as a result of the cruelty of the policy and the…

Hello everyone!

Just checking in with my first entry - it's good to know that there's a support system out here for people working in what is often a pretty lonely environment.  There are two really brilliant moments in writing - the day the book is commissioned or accepted and the day it comes out, most of the rest is pretty hard going.  There is nothing, however, quite like the feeling of buzz (and pressure) as you are involved in the…
