Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
With the rise in popularity of eBook publishing, I am starting to notice that some authors don’t pay much attention to the book cover for their novels. Even if you publish an eBook and not a paperback version, I think it is still important to have a professional, attractive front cover as part of your promotional material.
I am still more inclined to look at a book based on the front cover even if I am browsing on my Kindle. There is something intriguing about cover art, when you can…

I love dogs, and I love a good mystery. So when I came across the Chet and Bernie mystery series, I was ecstatic. The books are narrated from the perspective of Chet, the dog. I really enjoyed this as too many times in books and movies, animals are overly anthropomorphized.
I cuddled up at night with books one and two, Dog on It and Thereby Hangs a…

Flowers For Algernon By Daniel Keyes
Overall Rating : A Man’s Odyssey that pulls so many heart strings
Okay if you have been reading my other smoothie reviews then you know I’m a sucker for science fiction. Or importantly classic science fiction. If you haven’t notice this by now, go back and read my Subterranean review. I couldn’t stop from praising it. So it’s not surprising I decided to read another classic scifi piece. This one is called Flowers For Algernon by Daniel…

Consider this; you have just finished your first book, you are so proud of your achievements and luckily you have found a small publisher to publish your work. Your’e excited and this is understandable and soon your excitement breeds a new dream. You dream that you will buy a new house with the proceeds that you will make, or perhaps a new car. You believe that when your book comes out, you will be rolling in the money, no more financial concerns, and you can pay your medical bills that have…

Those who follow me on FB will already know if they've looked, but yesterday I finished book four in the Knights of Camelot series. Yeah me!
One good thing about knowing the characters so well , it certainly comes fast when it happens. It's just hitting those right notes and all of a sudden you have a symphony in your head. Poor Lancelot, I've torn him a part so many times but I firmly believe he's a better man for the experience....
...or am I beginning to sound like his…

There’s no question that books are judged by their covers, particularly when they’re written by new or lesser-known authors. Before convincing the viewer to turn over the book and read the blurb on the back, or click on the link for more info, the cover has to be enticing enough to encourage further interaction. That’s a fact, which is why a professionally designed cover is absolutely crucial to the popularity and sales of every book.
The cover sets the tone of the book, informs the…

I live in Mt. Dora, FL. I work close to home. I shop close to home. On Facebook, I have "friends" all over the world. Turns out, one of those friends is an author that also lives in Florida. Leona Bodie is the Vice President of the Florida Writers Association and she shared a touching story with me recently. It is about two other authors from Florida and I wanted to share it with you.....

Well I did it! I entered NaNoWriMo for the very first time, and I succeeded, and I won. Tonight at midnight I validated my novel with 50,168 words. The best thing is, I haven't even finished yet but I am so close to the end I can taste it, and it is sweet!
It has been a long, hard month. My poor baby daughter has become very well-acquainted with her toys and the popular British children's TV channel…

I am amazed at the response I have had recently while promoting my novel Love Hurts. Although it was produced by an independent publishing company, they are only very small and therefore cannot devote too much attention to marketing any particular book. So I took the initiative and have been doing what I can on a non-existent budget.
It is actually progressing very well indeed. I have managed to secure interviews with several newspapers in the Staffordshire and South Cheshire area…
