First and Last

This is fun for me. At about the same time I finish the last part of "An Amish Home", I get to re-visit the first chapter of my first story, "An Amish Journey".

"Rest on Grace" is the conclusion of "An Amish Home".…

The Fall, but it's not Spring yet

Sometimes, we are faced with the inexplicable. Sometimes, things do not go as we planned.

That does not mean that there is not something better waiting on the other side.

In "An Amish Home Volume 7 – The Fall", one of those things happens.

Young Ruth and her brother venture off into the woods for some innocent and much needed play time. What happens next is almost a tragedy and Ruth receives an ominous message from the mysterious figure that some have called her…

Away in a Manger

From Matthew 1: 18-25

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to…

This is the End

It took more than a year, but finally we have. Olivia and I started this project when she was 8 years old. Next week, she turns 10. What a wonderful journey! I have loved sharing every minute of it with her. Who knows what comes next?

Find It Here

"What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost."  - Luke 15:4-6…

Don't Get Lost

That is important to me. It really is.
When you have a child, that is something you think about a lot. As a parent, we have to plan, prepare and teach our children everything we can to protect them. Sometimes, that is all we can do and sometimes that is not enough.
I have probably always known this, but becoming a father has reinforced it. There is one thing more, and it should be the first thing. Trust God.
I could put bars on the windows and my daughter…

Ten Equals One By Mark Miller

See, that’s a misleading way to start. There are actually eleven of us and twelve stories. I’m talking about a group I fondly refer to as the Authors of One and our series, simply called One. The Authors of One consist of ten authors, plus me. Ten equals one. I think we have the math straight now.
In the synopsis, I call it “a spiritual anthology examining True-Life experiences of Authors and their Faith. As the series evolves expect…

Nothing is Impossible

An Amish Home. That’s what Allan has now. He found his path and so much goodness came into his life. My new stories are set in Karsten Field about eight to ten years after An Amish Journey. Allan is happily married with two young children. His oldest daughter, Alice, even has a family of her own. Life is good.
That doesn’t mean they don’t face any challenges. Sometimes, when life is that good, we need reminders. An…

Karen Anna Vogel talks about Amish friends who inspire her writing.

What is your connection to the Amish?
I live ½ hour away from Smicksburg, PA, a large Old Order Amish settlement. I shop at their stores and we hired Amish men to help remodel our century old farmhouse. It’s been fifteen years of remodeling, (still not done…) so we got to know many men and their families. On their breaks, they love to talk and swap stories, and I always have 1001 questions, ranging from “Do you grow celery for weddings?”(They had no idea what I was talking…

All Time Best Bible Stories

I have chosen some of my favorite Bible stories as the basis for my new short stories. Starting with Noah's Ark, I will introduce the themes and messages of the stories I grew up with into my fictional Amish community of Karsten Field.

These are only my favorites. I would love to hear which ones are yours. It might inspire me (and sometimes, we all need inspiration).

For My Daughter

I think about my daughter now. She is sweet and innocent. She loves her daddy. I am the man in her life.

Then I think about ten years from now (fifteen, if I get my way). She will most likely have a new man in her life. She will be thinking about romance and marriage.

That's what was on my mind as I wrote the latest volume of my Amish Journey. I will admit that I had to move away from the keyboard for a while. I couldn't see what I was typing through the tears. So, I…
