No Matter Where You Hide That Doughnut... It'll Be Discovered!

Skip was standing at the counter, enjoying dipping his doughnuts in his hot coffee.  I could see he was in another world... the world of tasting something so good!

Skip loves doughnuts.  Not only loves doughnuts, he can make them.  Skip can bake, cook with the best of them.  These doughnuts passed the test... they were 'perfect'.  Skip loves to tell me about how doughnuts are supposed to be made... don't overproof them, don't over-cook... under-cook them.

If…

UMAT'S SNOWMAN

                                                 UMAT’S SNOWMAN

                                     A breathing portrait on notebook

Mushtaque B Barq

Umat was repeatedly sneaking her looks through that half broken window protected with iron grill which was seizing side glances which Umat was trying hard to take hold of the Vast Blue , yet the grill was enough irritating to produce different views of the cloudless sky. Her face was partially held by some unknown grief…

Destiny Denied .... sequel to Destiny's Dowry

Destiny Denied is at the printer now awaiting the cover art.

The manuscript received a 5-star review from Readers Favorite.  It is too long to post, but here is just one paragraph of the review:

"Destiny Denied" is an intriguing story of a family's deep secrets coming to light and leaving them with choices that they'd rather not make. That the late local parish priest Father Lahdra kept a journal telling of those secrets is a good writing ploy and makes "Destiny…

Our Pups ... Are Sweet Banana Pups!

By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee

I put frozen pieces of banana into the blender, along with crushed ice, a little cream.  I blended until the texture was thick, smooth.... it became banana ice cream!  I learned to do this from looking at recipe sites on my computer.  Oh, it's heavenly!

I spooned all into a cup, found my favorite spoon ( it is a long, slender teaspoon :))).  I took all outside on the porch to…

Determined to Take Back My Life

Introduction

When a person is diagnosed with having a brain tumour, it is a natural assumption to fear the worst, thinking that life is virtually over. I was only eight years old when my tumour was discovered, and I was not particularly aware of its seriousness.  But it was my parents and family who suffered the most, hurling their lives into turmoil.

Back in the 1970s technology was not as…

Granny Gee Is ... For-Real At The State Fair!

Yesterday evening we stopped at a service station, got out of the pickup to go inside.  Screaming... happy screaming filled the air behind us!  We turned to look, saw a huge ferris wheel going 'round and 'round.  The happy screams were coming from there!  Skip and I turned to look at each other... for a moment we were children again.  The fair!  The fair's come to town!  We were looking at a county fair....

We stood there to watch the different rides in motion.  Happy colors…

Adult truth #2

“Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.”

Been there, done that. And let me tell you, there is no easy way to smoothly extricate yourself and still look cool.

Admitting you're wrong is difficult. Admitting someone is right can be, too.

This is especially true when it come to critiques about your writing.

All…

The Colors Of Granny Gee's Life...

I write to keep the memory of Tommy alive, to never be forgotten.  Tommy was my only child, my son.

Tommy died May 29, 2010 on a Saturday evening ... he and his family had gone to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to spend a week.  It was their summer vacation, they were happy, excited to be going to the beach.  Tommy was…

Moral Characters for Today's Youth

Hello Everyone,

I'm Sal Corrente, author of, The Adventures of Boochi Malloochi series (Vol 1-12).

The main character, Boochi, who is based loosely on my first daughter, (my wife and I have four all together), was developed with a strong sense of wit, morals, repect for others, genuine courtesy and well portioned sarcasm. The delicate balance of her personality is a combination of her real life parents. I believed when creating this series, that is was essential to provide a…

Why I Write

If someone were to ask me why I write, I would have to reply, “Why not?” It is part of who I am.   As a child, my love of a good story often got me into trouble at school. I would hide my library book, usually  a mystery, behind the pages of a bulky school text. That is probably the reason my grades suffered in other areas, especially math.

At night, my mother would often find me hiding under the bed sheets reading. This was after she had told me more than once to turn out the lights…

Adult Truth #1

In November of last year (on another blog site), I posted a series of humorous statements entitled Adult Truths. Many people enjoyed them and one person, my editor and friend, Sunny, suggested I think about writing a blog about each individual truth.

Well, I kept the idea in mind, wondering how I might turn these bits into blogs about writing. Now that my blogs…
