7 Strategies Obama Uses to Make an Impact

This is not an article about politics. Instead, it is about 7 strategies for creating impact with your words. We will use samples from President Obama’s July 17th weekly address as an example of impact strategies.

President Obama is a powerful speaker. What does that mean? Being a powerful speaker means that people are interested in what you say and that they react emotionally and cognitively to your message. This is impact. Whether intuitively or consciously, powerful speakers…

Ip Dip Sky Blue

A family of five, with
rooms full of carpets,
penknives and books.

Four of us at dinner,
kids staying up late
till dad comes home.

A triad of pests,
we owned the
neighbourhood.

Two ersatz-grannies:
one for the toffees,
one for the stories.

A mysterious creek:
terra incognita to be
explored till sundown.

Was Adam really the first man created on Earth?

I have my doubts as to if Adam was really the first man created on earth, because the arithmetic of Adam’s creation according to Enoch, the most beloved man of God who never tasted death did not add up. (Enoch, his life, and teachings will be discussed later on in the Chapter). According to Enoch’s prophesy a Messiah would come 5,500 years after Adam’s…

Opening paragraphs to my work-in-progress, which is currently untitled

I have no title to this story quite yet, as I'm writing without much of an outline. As I write more I'll likely develop stronger characters and plot, which should result in a decent title. Until then, I'm posting these opening paragraphs to the story which I'm hoping will gain some constructive criticism. Thank you!

Murdered.

It was one word that claimed a hundred different possibilities --- who, when, where, why? --- and yet, it seemed overlooked to Rachel. As she…

The Kunc, Kunz, Kuntz Family Reunion

The Kunz Family Reunion

July 16-18, 2010

By Andrew Kunz

Back in February, while celebrating my 20th birthday at my Dad’s house, I

heard from my Grandmother that the Kunz family was holding another of

their prestigious family reunions. Immediately interested, I queried the

date, location, and any other information I deemed necessary. My

Girlfriend, who was sitting next to me at the time, was greatly

interested in the event as well. We’d… Continue

when daddy comes

would not words turn to pictures when he comes
then slaves will be depicted in their thrones
with every second that passes
posey smiles stirred up like a wind filled with ashes
though my heart yearns this coming
it still pounds a dull "thumb" when it hears he's coming

laughter or sorrow made judgment of your past
it will hurt when daddy comes

Pre-print Nonplussed

As the first of the three books of my Free Clinic trilogy goes to print, I find myself going crazy. Not "postal" crazy, but the the general feeling is such that one wants to pull one's hair out and scream at the sky.

Also, it seems like the convoluted cascade of events in the "real" world conspire to confuse and confound me. (How's that for "illiteration"! Oh my, I forgot to spell correctly!) I moved residence over the last week and that is…

More Than Grammar

We often respond to questions on Yahoo! Answers. The article below is adapted from one of those responses.

Question: Can Someone Check My Grammar?

“There are several factors account for cultural diversity in Europe such as geographical, historical, and religion that prevent the growth of any single homogenous style in the region. The geographical distribution has formed boundaries within the different ethnic groups. Separated by their identity…
