Writing Styles for a comedy novel

As I pass the mid-point of my comedy novel about retail I am working on a style very new to me. One, I have never written comedy before, but the ideas are flowing and my critic(s) tells me it sounds good. However, I am writing in a style that is almost narrative.

Example:

I woke up the next morning with an aching headache and immediately wished I hadn't gone out partying the night before. I couldn't think straight let alone stand up on my own two feet. As I…

More Crossed Wires

Hey All!

The plot thickens. Here is the latest in Crossed Wires.

My Best,

Mark

Carl and Sandy Meet Their Mystery Man

Sandy drove them from Roanoke at a high rate of speed, hitting the I-81. Carl was wishing that he could have been behind the wheel, because he wanted to go faster. His brain itched, his back itched and just about everything else itched too. He was having a very itchy kind of day.

About an hour and a half out, Sandy…

San Francisco Pulic Works

Hey all!

Here is the latest off of my desk. I got this story in a dream, of all the places. I've worked it out in outline and have started to generate the copy. I'm uncertain as to whether or not this will be a novella or a full blown novel.

But here is the first bit for your perusal. Suggestions, as always, much welcomed.

I was raised in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, and have many short works set there.

Please enjoy.

Press release used for work newsletter

I work for a company that does sales and marketing for Costco Wholesale. My parent company is Daymon Worldwide, another giant marketing company. May is the month which Coscto raises funds for The Chidlren's Miracle Network, also the charity I donate part of my profits to. This was the press release that was printed in all of our April newsletters. So far, it has helped me sell 150 more copies of "Sensitivity 101 for the Heterosexual Male...Lessons Learned from the Fairer Sex." Hoping it will…

Chapter 1 Panagsama and Its People

The main attraction of Panagsama is its people. They are warm and friendly and always finding a way to make every stranger comfortable and feel at home.

Panagsama is originally known as Basdiot meaning "Little Sand"

It is one of the 13 barrios in the municipality of Moalboal, well-known also as the place called "Divers Paradise".

The village chief whom was, is and will always be loved by the people is a man who has the most beautiful smile. His name is Mauro or… Continue

Confusing Such and Like

I own literary books like The Clock Winder by Anne Tyler and The Moor’s Last Sigh by Salman Rushdie.

Do I own those books or not? This is not clear. The problem is the word like.

Many writers use the word like when they mean such as, and this causes confusion. When we’re editing client’s documents, we help improve clarity, i.e., we help the writer communicate what he or she means. As a result, we fix problems with like and such… Continue

Discover The Splendor Of Panagsama

Panagsama is a Cebuano dialect here in my country, the Philippines, meaning "Brotherhood", and it is a name of the village that I am calling "My Home Sweet Home ". It is located in the southern part of Cebu, also known as "The Queen City of the South ", and has the most magnificent sunset that mesmerizes my whole being.

My heart belongs to Panagsama and Panagsama belongs to my heart. To each and everyone in this wonderful world of Authors.Com., "Discover The Splendor…

New to Authors.com

Just wanted to say 'hello' to my fellow scribes. I have been on another free authors web site since 2000, and I have communicated with writers from all over the world on it.

As for myself, I am a degreed journalist who has worked as a reporter, have been issued a teacher's certificate, am working on my Masters in Education, and have decided to go with PublishAmerica on the republication of the new version of my critically-acclaimed science fiction novel.

[Now, if I can only figure out… Continue

The Way It Works

Hey all!

I have something a little different this time.

Free Clinic will be in print by Christmas, and Crossed Wires is in the final stages of the writing process, i.e., still working on it.

But here's the rub: getting it out there.

With the advent of the e-book and other self publishing venues, the major houses are getting a little skittish.

Submit your work professionally. Get an agent of not ill repute and contract them. Be careful.

Intellectual property is still…

What I made at work (Smile)

Wow I havent be on for a long time but heres something I made at work.

Smile, my love, right now,

because next time laughter comes into our relationship

I don't think one of us will be able to get up.

So smile my darling, Smile!

I wrote this on a napkin with a lil drawing of a girl looking sad but still smiling.

One of my co workers liked it and kept it and said she would frame and put on her wall when she goes to prison.

Haha so I tried to… Continue

Publishing

Linda, look at Lulu.com. They publish all my books and only charge when a title sells. I think it's the best deal available.

The Winter of My Repose

Hi! My name is Linda. I have recently been published by Publish America and I am finding it difficult to market my book.Even though they published my book for free they are a print on demand company. I have already bought many copies of my book but since they don't give discounts to book stores I am at a loss as to what I should do.Yes many of my friends have bought my book but I am now running out of family and friends. Anyone have any suggestions. Writing is a hobby for me and right now I am… Continue

NPR!

NPR just broadcast a very interesting program about the "future" of book publishing. Of course, this means the Internet. Look at us...we're here making things happen. The program mentioned Lulu.com prominently. That's where I have my books posted. So, I'm off to the gym for my workout basking in my identity as a "cutting edge" author!

Blessings!

Alan

Hurts So Good!

I'm an exercise junkie. I just finished a HARD workout...and it hurts so good! There's a very clear reason for this, however. If I can make it happen, next summer I would like to climb ALL (54) 14,000' mountains in Colorado. And I would like to bicycle from Michigan to Colorado carrying all my gear! (Hey, why not?)

I honestly don't know if I can make this happen, but I'm going to train for it anyway. That way, if I can pull it off, I'll be ready. And if I can't, I'm certain my training… Continue
