An Extraordinary Hero...My Hero

What is a hero...?

A hero may different from me and you.

To a little kid a hero is a person wearing a cape with superpowers,

A kid may be the same.

To a mid-age child it may be a special person or still a "Super-hero"

To a normal teenager it is normally some entertainer or celebrity they idolize...

But not me.

My hero, is a rather extraordinary.

The way I see sometimes the best hero's are the ones that stand right before your eyes but…

Research – The First Step to a Good Result

I come from a background where estimating and predicting events or developments was a key part of my job. Taking this to heart in a career of writing, I would place research as either the first or definitely a high priority cornerstone to any writing career.

That said, I have been reading and reading and reading what other people say about how to write and produce a novel. A favourite of mine is the book by two US writers and publishers, Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry.  Easy…

Laurie Bowler The Depths of Darkness

Vampires anyone? Laurie Bowler has taken the genre to a whole new level with her body of work. She is definitely a busy gal with her newest full length novel, The Depths of Darkness. She also has her new series Across the City which has three installments in publication already: The Beginning, The Battle Begins, and Carnage with a fourth on the way, The Alliance. Laurie will be my guest in The G-ZONE next week April 5th @ 8.30am EST to discuss all that and much, much, much more.…

Wicked Good Amy Faircloth/Joanne Lewis

Two sisters, one story, & plenty of emotion, this is the recipe for Wicked Good. An excellent one at that as this novel is surprising in its quality and ability to not just grab the reader, but evoke a myriad of emotions that range from tears to hope and inspiration to a few smiles and uplifting moments along the way. Did I, the heartless reader and blogger that I am just write tears? Yes, I did and as manly as I am ,if you cannot shed a few tears as you read this novel, well then your…

Q&A with John Locke

-The western, what is the deal on that? Where did that come from?

At the heart of every western a man or woman faces danger, hardship, or overwhelming odds. It’s a timeless theme of courage, especially when their quest takes them into the vast unknown, where they must face the elements and other enemies head on, with little more than a horse, a gun and meager supplies. People always tell me they don’t like westerns, so I thought, why not create the type of western people…

Self-Published Sunday Joy Spraycar Quicksilver

Hey, I didn’t post this early today; I am a bit whooped on from a busy weekend. My youngest daughter had her birthday this weekend, we had a houseful Friday night, and then last night we were partying with Big Daddy Abel, author of the Open Mic series, and the Amish Outlaws at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pa. The houseful of people and the birthday celebration were nice; I love having the family around. The concert was intense and jam packed as they turned people away at the…

Review of Paolini's "Eragon"

Whether I'm writing a short story or reading one, I find enjoyment in them both. Reading books that catch my interest helps me to weed out the good from the not so good. I never judge a book by its cover, but by its first few chapters. You see, I am a critic of sorts, spending time reading books so I can review their material for…

Digital short Saturday Trestle Press Spring Submission Winner Jeffrey Martin House of Misery

Yesterday I had the privilege of announcing the first winner in the Trestle Press Spring Submission Contest: Jeffrey Martin for House of Misery. Serious stuff and it is an intense read. More on that in a bit. The contest winners will be announced at different times during the week on my blogtalk show The G-ZONE until we reach the conclusion on or around the 15th of April. The submissions were many. They varied in style and substance, and were all together amazing. My experience…

Digital short Saturday Laurie Bowler Across the City Carnage

The stories just keep pouring out of Laurie Bowler. As I am writing this post she is releasing The Depths of Darkness, a full length novel (I will be posting on that next week). She also has Across the City, the fourth chapter in the continuing saga ready to edit. I already have the cover done for that bad boy and will put it up on Facebook after I put this post up. Hopefully you will like the cover art. Laurie will be my guest again in April on The G-ZONE, my blogtalk radio show.…

Digital short Saturday Tom Sumner All I Wanted was a Haircut Volume two

For those of you that didn’t tune in on Monday to my blogtalk radios show The G-ZONE, shame on you. Okay, maybe you had something to do, but you can at least listen to it on the archive, who knows maybe you will find another author you find interesting. The reason I am pointing this out is this: Tom gave me a new insight into how and why he writes. I found his answers to my questions compelling as well as very telling and it helped me to appreciate his hard work even more. Here is…

Almost Done!

Received news from my illustrator today that he is almost finished with the drawings for "My Angel in a Doggy Suit".  Hopefully it will be on Amazon and in bookstores soon.  "I'm Happy to be Me" is going strong and I am enjoying reading it for all the kids in the school system I work for.  Oh Oh Oh...just finished "I Used to Be Mean" and that should be rolling forward quickly.  So much to do and so little time to do it, but man oh man it is fun!

First paragraph of Butler's next adventure

We've begun writing.  Just came up with this scene to open the book.. What do you think?

It was not their fault, really.  Well, mostly not.  Matthew Butler, Tommy Cooper, and the little dog Jack emerged from Mobile Bay like Swamp Thing II, their powder blue tuxedos dripping with mud and rotted weeds.  On the expansive lawn in front of them sat three hundred fifty close friends and relatives, dressed in their Sunday best.  A murmur ran through the crowd.  The bride, an… Continue

ChickendoodleWhereAreYou.yolasite.com

It's a beautiful day and a little cool here in Arkansas.  I have been trying to get a lot of things done and

put away all that paperwork we all end up with  that we don't use everyday but just can't throw away.

Also, been busy creating a website for my book Chickendoodle! Where Are You?  I wanted everyone to be able

to get a feel of the story and be able to see a few pictures from the book.  At the website,…
