Surprisingly the cast of characters is small yet many, basically because they all look like the same person. This story is under consideration to become its own independent series within The Author’s Lab. Give it a try it packs plenty of punch for the $.99 price tag.

Here is the synopsis:

“Another installment from Trestle Press’s original digital short story series The Author’s Lab/Collaboration:

Multi-genre author Cody Toye presents the origin story of the new series Clone Zone. He begins to tell his story through a lonely loser, adrift in a sea of despair who is unknowingly the target of execution and elimination by beings that look exactly like him, clones of himself. G.S.I. (Gelati Scoop Investigations) is brought into the matter as the clones are running rampant through this small town where they first crop up.

Can they save this community from destruction and devastation? Will the clones continue to multiply? Will they find out who is at the helm of this outworldly scheme?

Multi-genre Author, Cody Toye, lives in SW Missouri with his wife, Heather; eight-year-old son, Gideon; Labradoodle, Rose; and Weiner hound, Artemis. He enjoys spending time with his family, martial arts, and ice-cream. He is the author of “The Dribbles the Squirrel “digital short story series, “Zorza the Alien” digital short story series, “Intangibles” digital short story series, and the ”Toyebox Collections” children’s book.”
Andrew Smith Guest Posttag:www.authors.com,2011-09-30:3798404:BlogPost:952282011-09-30T13:00:15.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

I grew up among bombed buildings and hearing stories from my parents about the difficultes of air raids, so it was little wonder I’d always wanted to write a novel with World War II as its theme. When I found out about the shameful and extraordinarily cruel internment of Italian men in 1940, I knew I had an amazing event around which to build a story. Internment of Italians happened in Britain, where I set the novel, but it also happened in the United States — California recently apologized for “indignities” imposed on its Italian community during WWII.

I dreamt up two families — one English and one Italian — then added some suspense surrounding a deep dark secret. Characters and plot in place, I waded in to tell the story of their lives during and after the war. Young Edith is the main character, naïve at first, but forced to be wise beyond her years. Her two sons help tell her story and are the characters who unearth the startling event that has influenced their lives without them knowing it.

I listened to hours of taped interviews with men who had been interned to give my character Gianni, the Italian father, and his four sons credible stories surrounding the indignities they experienced during internment. I added colorful descriptions of everyday life in England during the war, and finally inserted a bit of humour and a dash of romance. Sounds easy, but it took five years to complete the novel. It was a lot of work but I enjoyed every minute of it. Edith, her sons, and Gianni and his family became more real to me than my own family! Even though the novel is finished and printed, I still find myself wondering how they’re doing and what they’re up to.
Layton Green "The Egytian"tag:www.authors.com,2011-09-30:3798404:BlogPost:950412011-09-30T00:14:31.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

What his formula does equate to is a read that flows all downhill and very quickly at that. I for one am a fan. Layton Green was nice enough to stop by The G-ZONE, my blogtalk radio show, here is the link for that discussion:

“The Egyptian” synopsis:

“ At a mausoleum in Cairo’s most notorious cemetery, a mercenary receives a package containing a silver test tube suspended in hydraulic stasis.

An investigative reporter tracking rogue biomedical companies is terrified by the appearance of a mummified man outside her Manhattan apartment.

A Bulgarian scientist who dabbles in the occult makes a startling discovery in his underground laboratory.

These seemingly separate events collide when Dominic Grey and Viktor Radek, private investigators of cults, are hired by the CEO of an Egyptian biomedical firm to locate stolen research integral to the company’s new life extension product. However, after witnessing the slaughter of a team of scientists by the remnants of a dangerous cult thought long abandoned, Grey and Viktor turn from pursuers to pursued.

From the gleaming corridors of visionary laboratories to the cobblestone alleys of Eastern Europe to a lost oasis in the Sahara, Grey and Viktor must sift through science and myth to uncover the truth behind the Egyptian and his sinister biotech – before that truth kills them”
An Inside look at S.L. Volume one just released and she will have a new installment in the series on the 15th of each month. If you enjoy a well told tale or are into Vampires, Werewolves and Steampunk, this is it for you.Grab it and go for the ride. Here is a Q&A for you to get a better feel for the author:

1) Let it Bleed, I feel, can be read on two levels. Am I off-mark suggesting the story can be read both ways? Simultaneously?

It would be interesting to hear more about your thoughts on this, Nerine. But I agree that there is a high note and an undertone to the story. On one level, this is a modern day Joseph and Mary story with a punk rock soundtrack, complete with a savior and a martyr and a villain. It is raw and brutal and hostile, intermingling the psychotic thought processes of the Dead Girl with the apocalyptic mission of mercenary angels. Then there is the undertone, humming deep beneath the epidermis of the main story… a tale of demons and monsters lurking under the impassive eye of a ruling god. Not sure which is more blasphemous – suggesting that God could be so taken with one of His earliest creations, the mythical Sophia, that he just lets her run around causing chaos wherever she goes, or the idea that God is not really in control of all of the worlds in the Universe.

2) Were you at all influenced by Allen Ginsberg's Howl? Are there any other authors who've influenced your style or who are inspirational?

“Howl” is brilliant – one of the greatest opening lines ever written. I have to admit that I was influenced by Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski and all the rest of the boys on the electric acid kool-aid bus. But I also have to give props to Anais Nin and Flannery O’Conner. Throw a little Patti Smith and Lydia Lunch/Exene Cervenka in there, and I guess I ended up with a whole liturgy of 20th century gospels to choose from. Then there are the poetry slams from the 80’s and 90’s – I still have old cassette tapes that I bought for $5 at clubs in New York and Kansas City of poets with their voices rising and falling among cheering crowds. Words are magic, and can weave spells. I tried to capture some of that magical imagery in “Let It Bleed”; to raise the lead singer of a band into mythological godhood based on the adoration of Generation X and the powers of the new Madonna.

3) Why a Goth theme? Were there any albums you had on repeat while you wrote?

I grew up in the suburbs right outside of Chicago. The Goth scene was the coolest, darkest, most absurdly underground and desirable music in the whole world. Back then, it was all about voice, image, and tone. And make up. Lots and lots of black eye makeup. There was the independent Blue Skies Record store in Naperville and Wax Trax in downtown Chicago – places where you could take $50 and walk out of the store with 10 new LPs or records. We would just walk in and buy the albums of bands we had never heard of, but had the best names. Back before Jarboe was a part of the Swans, Michael Gira was putting out the most hypnotic music with a hallucinatory bass line that just altered brainwaves. We loved Bauhaus and Ministry, and as the 80’s progressed we loved the Cure and Siouxsie and Morrissey. Don’t forget Ska and the influence of the Dead Kennedys! Once upon a time, that stuff was revolutionary. It seems almost quaint now, but back in the day it was uber-alternative to like these bands, and it shaped me into the person I am today.

4) Why names such as Razorblade Boy, Dolphin Boy or the Dead Girl?

I did a guest blog about this awhile ago, and I proudly but hesitantly admitted that I committed an author’s sin by not really naming my main characters. There was this primal need in me to keep the characters in a constant state of turmoil, leave them unnamed so that just their horrible, scandalous, visionary, beautifully decadent personalities could shine through. I think it keeps the reader’s guessing – if you look very very closely, I have detailed their proper names once or twice within the context of the 340 page novel – but it’s kind of like an Easter egg to find them. Isn’t the “Razorblade Boy” a great name? It has so many connotations – he is so jagged and sharp and self-important that he is unapproachable, and yet he is sorrowful and causes pain. I tried to match the name with the essence of the character, in a very Andy Warhol/John Waters kind of way. I think it works, because the novel is contradictory. Is everyone totally insane and hallucinating, or could this story really happen?

5) How long did it take you to write the story, and how challenging was the editing process?

LOL – this story took a really, really long time to get on paper. I am a painstakingly slow writer and I do constant re-writes. I am grateful to my beta readers, and to my actual editors who took a deep breath and went in with red pens poised. Could this book have been leaner and meaner, harder and more fast-paced? Of course. But the editors and beta readers viewed it as a symphony that starts out slow and then builds. You have to move with it, and not become overwhelmed by vocabulary or obscure references. It will all fall together in the end.

6) Are you going to continue in a similar vein with your next novel?

I have promised myself and Dark Continents Publishing, Inc., that my next two featured novels will be written like a normal human being. LOL! But seriously – I am trying to grow as a writer, and although Let It Bleed is written in a deeply stream-of-consciousness way of speaking and implying, I am seeking other, more accessible voices for future publications.

7) Care to spill the beans about any upcoming stories?

“The Seven Ravens” will be published in early 2012, and it a re-interpretation of a Grimm’s Fairy Tale. There will be another novel coming out, hopefully by end of spring 2012, that will be called “Crunchbone”, the story of werewolves and a doomed wedding party during turn-of-the-century Russia. I will also have a story published in “P is For Phobia”, an anthology being edited by Dean M. Drinkel for Dark Continents Publishing.
Davis Bunn “Lion of Babylon”tag:www.authors.com,2011-09-28:3798404:BlogPost:949942011-09-28T19:51:43.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

I have not had the pleasure of reading a Davis Bunn novel before, but very quickly I have become a fan of his writing. “Lion of Babylon” is a look at Iraq and Iran through the eyes and hearts of a variety of characters painting a picture that is surreal, consuming and confusing. The viewpoints hop around from character to character and give all sides of the dilemmas that plague the region. I was consistently amazed at how Bunn was able to go from character to character delivering such insight and wisdom from all sides of the events from the US service men to the Iraqi’s and also some Iranians, men and women alike. He also was able to infuse it with religious themes that just fit like a glove into the plotline that he executed so well. I do not hesitate to suggest this novel for reading; it is hard to put down.

Here is the synopsis:

“Marc Royce works for the State Department on special assignments, most of them rather routine, until two CIA operatives go missing in Iraq—kidnapped by Taliban forces bent on generating chaos in the region. Two others also drop out of sight—a high-placed Iraqi civilian and an American woman providing humanitarian aid. Are the disappearances linked? Rumors circulate in a whirl of misinformation.

Marc must unravel the truth in a covert operation requiring utmost secrecy—from both the Americans and the insurgents. But even more secret than the undercover operation is the underground dialogue taking place between sworn enemies. Will the ultimate Reconciler between ancient enemies, current foes, and fanatical religious factions be heard? “
Karen Anna Vogel “Wedding Season-Volume 2 Amish Knitting Circle”tag:www.authors.com,2011-09-28:3798404:BlogPost:947382011-09-28T12:24:58.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

Karen Anna Vogel’s writing for me is unique and has a viewpoint and narrative that I have come to quickly enjoy. Her take on the “Plain” people is poignant and very respectful. I love the definitions at the beginning of the read and the recipes at the end. They add a very nice touch to the installments of this digital short story series and for me add to it like a nice frame. The characters she has created seem all too real, they seem to just flow from her, and as a reader that just seems to draw me in more and more deeper into the universe. I just love it. “Wedding Season” is a gem and a peach of a read. If I could, instead of stars, I would give this 5 whoopee or shoo- fly pies out of five, but I don’t think Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, or Goodreads would change that for me. Get your Amish on and give this series a try, it will win you over very quickly.

Here is the synopsis of the “Wedding Season- Volume 2 of Amish Knitting Circle”:

“A Trestle Press original digital short story series…Amish Knitting Circle…Volume 2…Wedding Season

It’s been three weeks since Granny Weaver started her knitting circle to knit shawls for tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri. She had a hunch that women spun together, like her wool, would be stronger too. At the first circle, Ruth was missing and Granny knew why. Her husband, Luke, was isolating her again. Maryann didn’t come because of her ongoing fatigue. Fannie came, but Granny almost fainted when her widowed son, Roman, seemed to show interest in this twenty-one year old. Granny wanted him to notice his old sweetheart, Lizzie, but he barely gave her a passing look; all his attention went to Fannie.

It’s Mid-November now, and wedding season is in full swing. Emotions surface in everyone as they see vows exchanged between two people in love. Some are reminiscing over their own wonderful marriages, while others are plowing through this season with dread. The happiness around them only magnifies that fact they’re in an unhappy marriage or lonely, being single. How can the women help each other as they’re spun tighter together in a knitting circle?

This series, available every three weeks, will cover an Amish year. We’ll see women open up at the knitting circle, their hearts encouraged, as they face trials and every day pleasures…together.”
Jochem Vandersteen "Find Her" Volume 1 of the "Mike Dalmas" digital short story seriestag:www.authors.com,2011-09-27:3798404:BlogPost:951482011-09-27T23:25:41.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

“Find Her” marks the birth of a new digital short story new series and a new action character I really enjoy. Mike Dalmas is the character that Jochem Vandersteen has created and the universe in which he places him is interesting and dynamic. The setting is something like middle class suburbia, yet not, but the action and the hero seemed all too real and cut from today’s headlines.

Mike Dalmas is an ex-Special forces type but with a twist; the guy actually has a wife and kids and has a somewhat “normal” life. Surprise! I love that little twist. The hook in the story is that Dalmas is in debt to some police detectives because they are holding a murder he committed over his head. A murder that was “justified” by killing a truly bad guy. To pay off this debt Mike takes care of some other bad guys that are hard for the police to reach, making him a missile and a force for justice to wipe his slate clean.

Jochem Vandersteen makes this universe and character very believable, infuses him with humanity and humility that I have not seen in other “heroes”. He for me, is unique and engrossing. I just enjoyed the read. My suggestion is get in on the ground floor of this series, one of many that Trestle Press has going right now, and enjoy the action, the suspense, the balance, and the caring nature of a killer and a weapon for justice.

Here is the synopsis for you:

“A Trestle Press original digital short story series by Jochem Vandersteen:

“ Husband, father, vigilante... Mike Dalmas left Special Forces to become a dedicated family man, but when his daughter gets molested he had his revenge, killing the pervert who committed the crime.

Now the Bay City cops keep him out of jail if he takes care of their dirty work. The things their badge won't allow them to do but for which Dalmas has the right skill set.

Mike Dalmas is blackmailed in saving a young girl from a known sex offender. The cops want him to find her before she dies or loses the will to live. The clock is ticking... Will Dalmas be prepared and have what is needed to find her in time?”

Here is the synopsis for you:

“John Rain is back. And “the most charismatic assassin since James Bond” (San Francisco Chronicle) is up against his most formidable enemy yet: the nexus of political, military, media, and corporate factions known only as the Oligarchy.

When legendary black ops veteran Colonel Scott “Hort” Horton tracks Rain down in Tokyo, Rain can’t resist the offer: a multi-million dollar payday for the “natural causes” demise of three ultra-high-profile targets who are dangerously close to launching a coup in America.

But the opposition on this job is going to be too much for even Rain to pull it off alone. He’ll need a detachment of other deniable irregulars: his partner, the former Marine sniper, Dox. Ben Treven, a covert operator with ambivalent motives and conflicted loyalties. And Larison, a man with a hair trigger and a secret he’ll kill to protect.

From the shadowy backstreets of Tokyo and Vienna, to the deceptive glitz and glamour of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and finally to a Washington, D.C. in a permanent state of war, these four lone wolf killers will have to survive presidential hit teams, secret CIA prisons, and a national security state as obsessed with guarding its own secrets as it is with invading the privacy of the populace.

After the tragic death of her parents, Eva Lange must battle for her freedom; indeed, her very life. Fleeing her aunt's abuser, she falls prey to a murderous drug lord and his wife in their luxurious lair of lust. Using her wits, beauty, and sexuality to save herself and break the bonds of captivity and degradation, Eva struggles against corruption and powerful political forces to reclaim her independence and save the life of the man she loves.

Why did you decide to write it?

We wanted to write the type of novel that we ourselves enjoy reading: a taut, suspense-filled, roller coaster of a read that keeps you turning pages until you reach The End.

What types of readers will be interested in your book?

Anyone who enjoys fast paced, exciting fiction with a strong protagonist and convincing, fully drawn supporting characters will enjoy this book.

What is special about your book? What differentiates it from other books in the same category?

Our main character’s physical beauty is both a curse to her and her ultimate salvation. Eva is preyed upon because of her desirability, and she learns to use that same attribute unapologetically to free herself and assert her total independence

Have you published any other books? Do you plan to publish more?

We do plan to publish more novels; in fact, our second one is already underway. We have previously penned Murder Mysteries and a two act comedy play, Squirrels In The Attic.

A.J. Scudiere will be my guest on The G-ZONE Weds. Sept. 28th @12pm EST. Here is a little something to get the ball rolling before the interview:

The writing of a thriller is just as much of a puzzle as the story itself is . . .

When I started writing God’s Eye, I already knew how the story would go. I knew which character was the demon and which was the angel. I knew what Katharine would have to go through to find her way and what the path she eventually chose would be. But I didn’t always know how it would play out.

Writers often talk about how their characters take over and dictate what happens and how books take on a life of their own. I find that to certainly be true. In God’s Eye, Katharine’s life is disrupted by strange happenings that make her think she’s losing her mind. When she realizes that she’s a pawn in an old and ugly battle between a demon and an angel, she starts to believe insanity is the better option. The worst part is – though she knows who is after her and that she’ll have to make a choice – she can’t tell good from evil. So how can she choose?

To me, the work of the book isn’t in the writing, but in paying attention to the ‘what to tell when’. If you – the reader – can figure it all out too soon, the thrill is nearly gone. If you can’t figure it out at all, then where’s the joy in that?

Though the work is in figuring out what clues to put into the story and when, that’s also where the fun is. It’s part of why I love writing so much. To start, I have a two-fold plan for each book: I want you to be able to turn pages and just enjoy it but I also want you to have more if you want it. There are uncountable clues that are buried in each of my books that will help you solve the puzzle. And though you’ll get the answer at the end, not all of the clues will be pointed out.

The best books give you what you came for. In a thriller, what you came for is a surprise. If you can see the ending too early, there’s no suspense. And if you don’t have enough information, then you can get confused or frustrated with the author. There’s definitely an art to writing suspense. I find that thriller readers are usually smart . . . and that the best suspense novels acknowledge that intelligence.

I write for everyone who loves an edge-of-your-seat puzzle and for everyone who ever wondered if Margaret Atwood intentionally named the main character in The Handmaid’s Tale “Offred”. (The handmaids are identified by the red they wear and are named for the man they belong to. Atwood’s lead is both “Of-Fred” and “Off-Red”.) I always loved that dichotomy and include unspoken pieces like that in all my books. For example, if you check the meanings of my lead character’s name in God’s Eye – she’s Katharine Geryon – you find out some interesting things about her. And at the end of the book, you’ll learn something interesting about the cover, too.

My goal as a writer is not just to keep you up into the wee hours, but to give you enough information to solve the puzzle and also enough to make you doubt yourself. You, the reader, should mirror the main character . . . you get to go on Katharine’s ride with her, from the safety of your big comfy chair, late at night, with those little noises just beyond what the light illuminates, and with a growing concern about what lurks on the other side of the dark.

Richard Doetsch will be releasing “Half Past Dawn” this week; here is what you can expect to find between the covers on that:

“Between life and death, between the deepest dark of night and the first rays of dawn, in that moment where we begin to drift from sleep to wakefulness, is where anything is possible . . .

Jack Keeler wakes up one bright June morning to the shock of his life. He gazes in the mirror and sees a half-healed gash over his right eye and a hastily stitched-together wound in his shoulder that looks suspiciously like the result of a bullet. He also notices an intricately designed tattoo—words written in a foreign script—covering the length of his forearm. He’s alone, his house eerily silent without the delightful chatter of his wife and two daughters. He has absolutely no memory of how, when, or why he ended up in such gruesome physical condition.

Jack gropes his way down to the kitchen to call his wife, Mia—an FBI agent—and to find some answers. But before he can pick up the phone, his eyes are drawn to the front page of that morning’s paper. He takes in a large photo of a bridge, the guard rail missing, a skein of tire marks on the roadway. Above the photo, in large black type, a headline that simply reads NEW YORK CITY DISTRICT ATTORNEY JACK KEELER DEAD.

From this mind-shattering opening scene, Richard Doetsch takes readers on a twisting, turning adventure as Jack struggles to find out not only what happened to him, but to his missing wife. As fragments of his memory return, and with the help of a loyal friend, he reconstructs the events of the previous night, which culminated in his being shot and Mia’s abduction. He has only until dawn of the following day to uncover an ancient mystery hidden in the depths of one of the country’s most heavily guarded prisons. Just when Jack thinks he has put all the pieces together and has saved Mia’s life, a final twist occurs that changes everything.

A thriller spanning time, an Asian people out of legend, an assassin who will stop at nothing to avenge his death sentence, and a diary whose contents foretell the future. Half-Past Dawn is a race through the borders of life and death, insanity and reason, and dreams and reality. In the dim light of half-past dawn, nothing is as it appears to be.

Elemental, that is the way I would describe this read. “Green Eyes, Black Heart” has many different elements to it. It is multi-faceted, and that translates into one excellent read. The synopsis will give you the gist of the story, but understand that the layers in this are seemingly more than an onion but all of them are nicely tied together at the end. For me it was like R.W. Doyen took a pane of glass, dropped it, and then took his time, painstakingly putting it back together, one shard at a time, until the pane was whole, nary a crack visible. Great stuff, awesome read, I cannot say enough good about this read.

Right now until month’s end you can get this as part of Trestle Press buy one get free promotion. R.W. Doyen is a great example of why they put the promo together. This is an author that has very strong work, is looking for an audience and is hungry to meet his readers and begin a dialogue with them. No bones about it, he wants you as a reader. Take advantage of the promotion, pick up “Green Eyes, Black Heart” and reap the benefits. The reads keep coming, which ones do you want?

Here is the synopsis:

“ Sandra gracefully charmed her way into men's hearts using her beauty and her brilliantly flashing green eyes. She used them both as bait to lure her victims even closer. She used her sex like a sharply honed dagger and when her prey discovered the trap and struggled to get free, she struck with deadly consequence. The road of Sandra's life is strewn with the corpses of those who loved her, or simply got in her way.

The green of her eyes could never overshadow the blackness of her heart . Doctor Bemis was not taken in by her charm , nor did he fear her wrath............it almost cost him his life . “

R.W. Doyen’s Bio:

“R.W. Doyen is an author, a business owner, an every man’s man, but above all else, he is a father and husband. Life’s everyday, tedious routines and small issues often get in the way of what’s important, family. If anyone can attest to this, Doyen can. He experienced the ultimate horror any father can ever face, his daughter came home to tell him that she was brutally attacked and raped.

R.W. Doyen graduated from the University of Maine and then from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia. For twenty-four years, he practiced podiatry in Towanda, Pennsylvania. He relocated to North Carolina, founded a sea wall construction company, and began to write about this devastating episode in his life.

Years later, after the pain had lessened and the fear began to slightly subside, R.W. Doyen decided to write about the family tragedy. What has transpired is a fictional representation based on true events of what a father feels after his daughter has been a victim of sexual assault. It is a story of fear, vengeance, law and hope. It is a story of what a family goes through when the most precious gift and blessing of a father and mother, a child, is assaulted and raped. It is a story of A Father’s Anguish.”

I was lucky enough to be interviewed over at Ebookery this week. Here is the interview. The blog is beautiful, I suggest you give it a visit: http://eviljwinter.wordpress.com/

Tell us in your own words what Trestle Press is and what makes them unique.

Uniqueness, I like that one. I think that one of the ways we stand out is that we want our authors to not just write but to create their best every time their fingers hit the keyboard. There are no rules, there are no walls, only the ones we make. So what if someone else hasn't done it yet; their imagination doesn't have to be ours. Freedom for a creative mind must be liberating, without the conventional bounds they should be able to soar. We just ask them to let their minds wonder and see where it takes them. I truly think that shows in what we have produced thus far. Trestle Press is a bridge between readers and authors, trying to bring them closer than they ever have been, in new and innovative ways.

Wait, I have one more thing to add here; we have been fortunate to become host to over 20 monthly series, digital short story series, all different genres from Amish Culture, Spiritual to Hard Boiled Noir and almost everything in between. The cost of the stories range from $.99 to $1.99 and each installment comes out once every three to four weeks. As a reader, I love it because I know every week I can have something new in my e-reader.

What was the impetus for Trestle Press?

Need! I have been fortunate to have formed relationships with many authors through my blog, Gelati’s Scoop, Facebook and Goodreads. I was amazed by the quality of their content and their struggles to get their work out to the readers. I thought hey, there has to be a better way. I discussed this with some editors I know and also my bocce buddy and childhood friend that is much smarter than myself but has this inability to beat me at bocce or basketball, and we all sat down laid it out. Trestle Press is a conglomeration of many minds, hearts and souls. I am just lucky to be the face I guess; it doesn’t hurt to be cute at times either.

What do you look for in a book, or an author, for that matter?

When we receive something we all share it so there are many thoughts on this. But to narrow it down the main components we look for are passion, ability, and message. I am a reader first and foremost. If I cannot get a grip on it, if there are too many dead words, or if the author’s message, no matter how small it may be, does not come through then it doesn’t work for us. Authors , well, I like them to have a bit of intensity, a chip, an attitude that they want to succeed; they need to succeed, that this is deep in their person and it needs to be a fabric of their being. Breathing, writing, sleeping, not necessarily in that order, I like that. The readers like that; it shows and comes across. Creative minds are fun to hang with, and we have plenty of them around Trestle Press. You can go up and down the line of our authors and they have one common goal and need: to be read and to satisfy the reader, period.

Have you considered partnering with a traditional imprint, either for a project or an on-going basis?

I think it is safe to say that if it makes sense for our readers, for our authors then we are up for trying anything. Those are our main concerns first and foremost: The Readers and The Authors. If someone has an idea and it is fun, means well and works within those simple perimeters let’s jam.

What do you consider Trestle Press's proudest moment so far?

I have to say I have a ton of them. Each and every time a customer, a reader leaves a review for one of our authors and gives their heartfelt opinion and we learn something on how to get better and we satisfied a reader, each time an author’s first work or next piece is live and for sale and they are jubilant, those are moments to be proud of. The other stuff, like when their title charts on the Amazon Top 100 for their category is nice too, but that is just a byproduct of their hard work, their dedication, and desire to satisfy the readers.

Hey, I want to thank you for allowing me to be here, it has been a pleasure. You are welcome in my little sandbox anytime you want. If you know of any authors looking for a home, send them to me, if you have any readers hungry for great stuff to read, then please send them to Amazon Kindle or Barnes &Noble’s Nook and put Trestle Press in the toolbar!

I think like many fans saddened by the passing of Robert Parker, we were left with a question in our heads. Is this franchise going to be carried on and if so by whom? I have included Michael Brandman’s bio after the synopsis so if you have not heard of the author or his creds, now you do. I have to admit and have done so many times that I am a huge fan of Parker’s and his many franchises. Jesse Stone, the king of dialogue, is one of my favorites. I saw that this was set for release and I was of two minds. Can they pull it off, can they even come close, and where are they going to this universe that I enjoy so much called Paradise?

The answers came for me rather quickly. I carefully read the jacket and the new author’s bio. I liked that they chose him to do this. I need to say this even though I am a book reviewer. I enjoy Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone; he carries it off pretty well. So when you mix the two, the writer that puts the words into Tom Selleck’s mouth and drives the television action with just the written word, how much closer can you get than to someone like Michael Brandman that has been inside of Robert Parker’s head and carried it off so many times in another media. I was happy, not euphoric, but happy. Now what is between the covers?

I saw a pattern and an agenda here. Was I happy with all of it? No. I was happy I was getting something that was as close to the original as possible, almost but not quite, but then again the guy that invented the brand, the universe, is no longer here. Let’s face facts, as readers and consumers, something was going to change, the visceral feel, that sameness, the fabric of the whole thing, there are a few new wrinkles in it. Are they all bad? No. I was happy to get the read in on a set of characters that I enjoy and hold dear. I think maybe too many “reviewers” took things a bit too seriously when they penned their reviews. A new sheriff is in town, and I am going to guess that includes a new direction and new media tie in as both are being written by the same guy. My question to you as a reader is, do you think that it is good for the same person to have control over both the written work as well as the visual one? Do you think that this franchise would be better carried off by having a different author?

Here is the synopsis and the author’s bio:

“Paradise, Massachusetts, police chief Jesse Stone returns in a brilliant new addition to the New York Times-bestselling series.

Paradise, Massachusetts, is preparing for the summer tourist season when a string of car thefts disturbs what is usually a quiet time in town. In a sudden escalation of violence, the thefts become murder, and chief of police Jesse Stone finds himself facing one of the toughest cases of his career. Pressure from the town politicians only increases when another crime wave puts residents on edge. Jesse confronts a personal dilemma as well: a burgeoning relationship with a young PR executive, whose plans to turn Paradise into a summertime concert destination may have her running afoul of the law.

When a mysterious figure from Jesse's past arrives in town, memories of his last troubled days as a cop in L.A. threaten his ability to keep order in Paradise-especially when it appears that the stranger is out for revenge.

About the Author

Robert B. Parker was the author of more than fifty books. He died in January 2010.

Michael Brandman is uniquely qualified to carry the Jesse Stone series into the future. An award-winning producer of more than thirty motion pictures, he collaborated with Robert B. Parker on more than a dozen of them. Together they wrote the screenplay for Tom Selleck's TNT movie Monte Walsh. Brandman produced and Parker wrote three Spenser films for A&E, and their collaboration continued with the Jesse Stone TV movies currently broadcast on CBS. Brandman lives in California.”

Paranormal,Supernatural, call it what you will, Linna Drehmel puts her best foot forward with a very nice debut effort.
Paranormal,Supernatural, call it what you will, Linna Drehmel puts her best foot forward with a very nice debut effort. I have gotten to read an eclectic mix of stories of late, and it has been a bit weird floating around from not only different genres but different sizes of reads: digital short story, novella, and full length novel. I use that word with qualification anymore because full length work, or what is considered to be “full length”, has changed and morphed quite a bit with this new age of publishing. I digress, sorry, back to the story at hand.

“Other Side of the Glass” is a unique story that has many elements in it and is nicely tied up at the end. Linna Drehmel transports us to a different time and place, an alternate reality, which is captivating. I enjoyed her descriptive ability and ease at which she was able to pull me into the new universe she capably constructed. On the horizon for her, she has a novel coming out called “Hearts” coming out in October.

Here is the synopsis and bio:

“Natalie Ray, who is a prominent singer on Earth, has been pulled in to an alternate reality. She finds that there is magic everywhere in this new world and that she is the daughter of a powerful leader. She must fight the keep her place among them.

Linna Drehmel was born at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho in 1973 and grew up surrounded by military. Her father served for 22 years in the Air Force, her mother was a military police officer in the Marines, and her older brother served for 10 years in the Navy. She draws inspiration from her family's many years of proud service in the military. She has spent much of her life studying anthropology and has a particular fondness for archaeology. She loves to find ways to intertwine anthropological and archaeological themes into her writing. She also has a strong understanding of what the reader likes, as she herself is an avid reader.”

Sharpshooter by David L. Hoof brought one word to mind repeatedly as I read it: unflinching. The characters were bold, brash, and at times almost too real.
Sharpshooter by David L. Hoof brought one word to mind repeatedly as I read it: unflinching. The characters were bold, brash, and at times almost too real. The setting was harsh and cold yet beautiful. The story was unapologetic in its examination of human behavior and attitudes. And, all this lead me back to the word unflinching. Hoof's characters' words were often far from politically correct and often made this reader flinch or squirm in her seat yet it depicted the characters' attitudes without question. The characters in the book are deeply flawed but likeable on some level. As the investigation into the murder of Jeb Holloway, political candidate, evolves, the reader is left to wonder if they really care who killed him even as curiosity drives them to find out. When two seemingly less important citizens are killed, the reader must wonder why their deaths are more disturbing than that of the politician's. The reader will also be torn between wanting the rekindled romance between the Red, the deputy, and Molly, the reporter, to work and to disintegrate even while wanting to know more about it. While, at times, the characters in Sharpshooter seem almost like caricatures even to one another, at other times, they seem like old friends the reader wishes to invite over for a nice leisurely dinner. Sharpshooter's unflinching examination of the prejudices people hold in their hearts, the wrongs remembered for generations, and the ambivalence that permeates people's daily lives grabs the reader and won't let go in an intriguing and layered murder mystery.

Steampunk [steem-puhngk] Like this word?

1. a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy featuring advanced machines and other technology based on steam power of the 19th century and taking place in a recognizable historical period or a fantasy world.

2. a subculture inspired by this literary and film subgenre: the fashions and gadgets of steampunk.

Also, steam punk, steam-punk .

Origin: 1985–90; modeled on cyberpunk

Hopefully that helps a bit. It helped me a little bit. What really helped me lose my mental anguish over trying to understand what this genre entailed, what I was in for, was reading this story. It Rocked! I do not care what genre this goes in, or what label you may wish to place upon this, it is just one very good read. S.L. Schmitz puts together a very nice plotline, engaging characters and carries the action forward with ease. The read is swift, fun and provocative. Who exactly are the Harkers? The universe that Schmitz creates here is rife with subplots, very interesting ones, that have left her many open doors to take us the reader through. The possibilities appear to be fun, different, original and I for one am willing to get my Steampunk on and go for the ride. This is your basic kick a^# origin story; get in on it now.

Here is the synopsis:

“Ever since she turned eighteen, Katherine Wilhelmina Harker has been keeping a horrible secret; she craves human blood. But she has no idea where this terrible thirst comes from - all she knows is that her father is dead and her mother passed away last year in mysterious circumstances. Katie lives in the London apartments of her guardian, Dr. Seward, and does not want to let anyone know about the dark stranger who sometimes visits her at night.

Now a teacher at the same academy her mother attended, Katie dreams of a world beyond London society, but is too frightened of her odd, newly-developing powers and her desire to drink the blood of all of the young gentlemen who call on her. She knows that there has to be more to the story of her birth than anyone will tell her, so now, to find out who she really is, Katie sets about locating the whereabouts of the missing Dr. Van Helsing to get the answers… “

He has a penchant for cranking up the tension, raising the suspense level and also for having a very dry, cutting sense of humor. When you combine all those qualities, I think that makes for some goose bumps and really good horror reading.

“Two Johns” is a direct extension of Sam Lang’s “Reprisal” digital short story series. The characters are vivid; they are dark, and they are pretty scary. Reading the work is like watching a skilled mechanic go about his business, putting a motor together, the inexplicable and palatable anticipation of the final result, but when will we arrive there, how long must we wait for that? Sam Lang just likes to bait us time and time again, adding more and more backstory to his characters, giving us a sense of foreboding that something really nasty is around the corner, lurking. For me that works. I am really getting a taste for the horror thing and this author, Sam Lang, is definitely on my radar. I am sure as we get closer to that annual time of the year, Halloween; we will be getting plenty of Sam Lang’s writing. The fourth installment of the “Reprisal” series is due out then, plus I am sure he will have some nice tricks or treats for us.

Right now, Trestle Press has a serious sale going on in an effort to get you as a reader. They are offering a buy one get one free, BOGO, on all their titles. Sam Lang is hungry for new readers, if you buy one of his titles just drop him or me a line and send us your proof of purchase and we will be happy to send you another story of your choice of equal or lesser price. We authors at Trestle Press make no bones about it: WE WANT YOU AS A READER! Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Here is the synopsis:

“John Drayton and John Rublanski narrowly escaped the events of Reprisal. Since that fateful day, they have pursued other interests and traveled the United States.

For some reason, death and chaos seem to follow them. The Two Johns are oblivious to their own trail of destruction, but not the G-Man. Giovanni Gelati’s elite task force has decided to put an end to the terror.

In 2016, the near future, Gelati has become a literary mogul with the power to make or break new writers. John Rublanski has finally finished his personal opus. GSI uses this opportunity to fake a meeting about the book and hopefully stop the Two Johns.

But how many Johns are there?”

I will include the link for that down below for you to enjoy. It was a nice interview and very telling. Why telling? For me it is very simple and the answer obvious if you get to know Darren at all: he is a really nice guy; his intentions are good, and he cares about his readers. Each of the digital short stories he has published have gone very quickly onto the charts on Amazon UK; I don’t think that is a coincidence.

“Community Spirit” is volume 2 of “The Longcroft Estate” Series. Words one could use to describe the vibe and feel Sant gives this series are cheeky, brutally honest, cutting, insightful, edgy…The brutality of the honesty is what I think, once he gets more installments under his belt, is going to be the hallmark of this series. Darren Sant infuses the work with humor, although dark at times, that seems to fit right in, not forced, not artificially injected, but necessary and well placed. Life needs and does have humor, even at times like those he describes, those that may lurk below the surface, in dark corners we may not want to acknowledge or believe even exists.

If you haven’t had a chance to get a read on any of Darren Sant’s work, now is a great time to do so, all his titles and those of all Trestle Press authors are BOGO, buy one get one free. If you purchase any of his or other Trestle Press authors by the end of Sept., just email me or the author with your POP and we will be happy to send you another Trestle title of equal value, your choice of titles.

Here are the links, emails, and synopsis:

The story synopsis:

“From the shadowy streets of the Longcroft Estate comes another gritty story. New to the area, single mother Tracy finds herself falling upon hard times. She has no friends or support network only her sweet little boy Tom.

When money troubles become too much for her she finds herself turning to the wrong person for help. Will she escape from the clutches of despair or sink beyond redemption?

Elsewhere on the Estate what shocking surprise awaits the Mayor?

Darren Sant brings you another stand alone story in this believable setting that could be just down the road from you. Sant's tales bring you realism, hope and heart as he brings the Longcroft Estate kicking and screaming to life one story at a time.

Praise for the first Longcroft Tale A Good Day:

“In ‘A Good Day’, Darren tackles difficult and emotive issues head on. He doesn’t flinch from showing us the grim horror of life for the underclass he’s writing about, neither sugars the pill nor dwells on the horror. He just tells it like it is. What I really love about this story is how Darren manages to give such a need-driven, self-obsessed waster as the main character layers and complexities, and yet to contain those within the essentially flawed nature of that character.” – Julie Morrigan.

“This book has a prologue and an epilogue that work spectacularly well as bread for the meat in this wonderful sandwich. Excellent.” – Nigel P. Bird.

A Good Day by Darren Sant has that characteristic. It’s set in a colourless, hopeless world at the bottom of the heap. In a place as dark as the abyss. So dark that the abyss has a clearer view of things than the people existing there.” – AJ Hayes.

“You're in for a treat - a story with a story! This author grabs the reader's attention from the first opening hook and doesn't let go until the very last word.” – Leona Bodie.

“Well, Darren Sant has the ability to convey a true human being: someone who has made some wrong turns but isn't entirely rotten to the core. This portrayal is well written and balanced, representing humanity in a way that many mainstream stories can't.” – Victoria Watson.

“The brave use of the anti-hero is really refreshing to read; as the reader I was left needing more, which is perfect for the first in a series. The author has an interesting and, in my experience, unique way of setting the scene and bringing the reader into the story which I loved.” – Martin G. Dale

A very interesting thing happened on the way to getting this novella sized work published: we could not get a consensus on the cover art. What do I mean by that? The story goes like this: I made two covers for Robert Ford to select from, and he liked both of them; he really couldn’t decide. The decision was made to put them up on our social networks and see what you the people thought about them, maybe something would shake out. Nothing did but great comments.
It was split 50% to 50% after we received well over a hundred comments. We made the decision then that we would use both. Yes , we are using both covers. The how of it is fun and hopefully you enjoy it. We have just published the story using the white cover art with the flaming heart in the eye on Amazon Kindle and the flaming heart on the macadam road on Barnes & Noble Nook. In a few weeks we are going to switch them, and see how the sales go, to see if either cover garners more interest on both platforms.

Now to the story itself, another in The World of Hek Series ; it rocks. Who is Hek? Why he is a very good looking, well dressed devil. He likes to play games with people, granting their wishes, but not just doing that, he makes them “better”. That is his way of messing with your head, giving you what you “asked for” but not really in the way you intended. Trying to beat Hek at his own game is very difficult. Robert Ford has created a universe around Hek that is both entertaining and engrossing; the reads are fast, furious, and at times farcical. I couldn’t come up with another f word in that last sentence, if you can, just inject it for me, thanks. This is not the only work by Robert Ford; he is starting to gather some titles under his belt( Hek:Savior, The Curse of The Translucent Monster) , each one is as good as the other; they read well, and there is not a bad apple in the bunch. For me as a fan and a reader of his work, Robert Ford just keeps getting better and better with each new piece I am fortunate enough to get to read.

Here is a good thing to remember: If you purchase any of Robert Ford’s stories produced by Trestle press before month’s end they are buy one get one free. Just email or message Robert Ford or me and we will be happy to take care of you; we look forward to it. Here is the synopsis of “Love Stories”:

“It was just three simple, innocent wishes. Stephanie Taggart was down on her luck and about to lose her house and she wished for more money. Her son was about to get engaged but she didn’t feel he was quite ready so she wished he would lose his girlfriend. She also wished that her daughter could realize what a loser she was dating. She only wanted what was best for her loving family, not to cause any harm.

Stephanie had no idea the recourse of such an action. Of course, she had no idea that the man she made those wishes to was the demon Hek, granter of wishes with an evil twist.

Hek, the villain of The World of Hek, Book One: Forever, The World of Hek, Book Two: Savior, and The World of Hek: Fall of Grace is always looking for a new victim to toy with. In The World of Hek: Love Stories he has chosen a family of three. What could happen to this family when Mom’s wishes are granted? Only Hek knows.

The World of Hek: Love Stories by Robert Ford brings back such Hek favorites as Slicer, the owner of The Broken Bottle Bar, and Daryll Eddington, the evil businessman from Savior”

Keeping up with the “Call Me Smitty” series has been a real pleasure for me. I guess that is a funny thing to say about reading about an assassin or hitman right? The pleasure in it is not the carnage and death, the ethical questions it brings up, the constant ponderings as to whether Smitty is a good guy or a bad guy, but in the ability of the author. B.R. Stateman’s unique ability to craft a story, to draw me in, to get inside my head and make me ask those questions time and time again. This is the joy in the read for me. He has a gift for taking the tired, old, mundane plotline and potential stereotypical character and making them not just better but amazingly so.

Smitty is an enigma and a question unto himself. The manner in which he goes about his business and dispatches “justice” as he sees fit has always kept me on my toes. I can feel the author’s enthusiasm for his character as none of the words are pedestrian. The action is emotional, gripping and at times I think one could include sensual, of course in a manly way. I really don’t want Smitty showing up at my door asking me a question about that one. I think you can understand what I mean when I write that, B.R. Stateham just loves his characters; he loves to have Smitty flow out of him, and the words are nothing short of one firecracker after another. The winner in all this is us the reader. I have read each and every one of the series, feel they are some of the best if not the best digital short stories and novella’s I have read, and the best part of all this is yet to come.

Right now, until month’s end, Trestle Press is making an offer to each and every person on this planet. They want you as a reader!
About 6 months ago I had a caller, Katherine LaHart, on my blogtalk radio show The G-ZONE call in and suggest that I do a collaboration. Personally I was floored; really, this was the last thing that I thought anybody would ask me that day. I sure didn’t wake up with that thought on my mind. Since then we, various authors and Trestle Press, have produced 22 installments of the series covering just about every genre possible except romance. Let’s face it, with names like Harry Balls, Peter Bater, Black Bart, and well me, romance does not come to mind.

One choice that was made right from the beginning was that we were going to try to use the same characters throughout the stories, keeping a constant thread, so that there is a consistency to them, a feel that you could have a familiarity with the material no matter what installment you pick up in the series. We wanted to make sure that jumping around is not an issue and would not hinder your reading experience. One other key element we wanted to have was to make sure that the story would have a flow, a balance, so it did not appear as if one author was trying to upstage another.

All the authors that have contributed thus far have had one last key thought in mind, you the reader. Are we delivering a really good readable story? We think that the results have spoken for themselves. The majority of the stories have sold very well, having charted on Amazon Kindle’s Top 100 in their category time and time again; for that we thank you!

Now for the good part: for the rest of this month we will be offering two things:

*** One is that we will be offering 6 of the titles for free, one for each month we have been doing this, yours to enjoy, no questions asked!!

You can ask any Trestle Press author for them and, BOOM. They are yours, no muss, and no fuss, please enjoy them!

Here is the list of titles from The Author’s Lab/ Collaboration series:

“Who Whacked the Blogger”- Benjamin Sobieck- the birth of Maynard Soloman

“Hotel Beaumont” –B.R. Stateham-Hard-boiled noir

“Thad and The G-Man’s Most Awesome Adventure” –Thad Brown-adventure/suspense/humor

“Bring Us Your Living …Now!’ – H.R. Toye- straight up horror

“A Prince in Trenton,Seriously”- Mark Miller- an all ages tale- everybody from 2 to 200 can read this!!

“Dueling Microphones”- Rose A. Valenta - Humor

***Second- if you purchase ANY Trestle Press title we will double your pleasure by sending you a second free story (of same or equal value). All you need to do is contact me or the author of the title purchased and send your proof of purchase from Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble Nook. Pretty simple and straight up: we just want you to enjoy them as much as we have.

My email is gelati.giovanni@gmail.com

Please support these authors; enjoy a good read, and maybe discover what happens when you mix hard work, inspiration and of course, surprise, to the mix.

“Pale Horse” is not a story that has anything to do with Native Americans, no, instead it is the beginning of a new detective series from J.E. Seymour. Tracey Greene is the reluctant private investigator and she knows horses and the stables. That is a good thing because almost the entire digital short story is set in and around a horse race track in New Hampshire. As I read the story I could smell the stables and hear the horses, well at least those that were alive.

Tracey Greene is an enjoyable heroine, even though she doesn’t know it yet. She is sucked into unraveling a scheme that is a bit more complicated than it looks at first. J.E. Seymour really brought the character and the atmosphere of the track to life for me. The sounds, the sights, the smells all came into being for me as she went through each one of them. I felt she was guiding me through the stables as she brought Tracey Greene around to question each and every suspect or person of interest. I applaud J.E. Seymour for her rich descriptive ability, her fun prose and her ability to craft another fine story.

Here is the synopsis for “Pale Horse”:

“Pale Horse" is a story about a missing racehorse that turns out to be more than it seems. Tracey Greene is a private investigator who has more experience with horses than with actual crime. When she starts looking for the missing horse, she finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery with the horse as the main suspect. “

I enjoy a good YA novel on occasion, I mean who doesn’t? It breaks things up a bit, gives a little more life to the reading week and who knows what quirky things may pop up in them. This though my friends,”Shelter”, is just a great read period; I do not care what label you wish to slap on this. I do not know how he does it, novel, after novel after novel, but Harlan Coben delivers another intense, fun read. The author says he had a blast writing this, well I had a ton of fun reading it, just flat out did not want to stop; I devoured all at one sitting. When I was done, I was a bit upset with myself for not savoring it a bit more, not drawing it out a little, because I do not know when I will be getting the chance to read another of his works again.

Harlan Coben really gets it with the kids. I can speak from experience having been one many moons ago but also having eight kids. I loved this time in our children’s lives and he hits the clique, clumsy thing right on the head. The Freaks, geeks, jocks, outcasts, they all have a place in the order of things. The character of Mickey is great. His surrounding cast excellent, the prose was right on, and the amount of care and consideration he showed with each character was evident; I loved it. One other thing that really stood out for me was he left enough mystery about each character for future installments, he did not answer or reveal all with this origin tale, great, because I want more, much more. Now if I can just get him on my blogtalk radio show, hmmmm……..

Here is the synopsis:

“A young adult debut from internationally bestselling author Harlan Coben

Mickey Bolitar's year can't get much worse. After witnessing his father's death and sending his mom to rehab, he's forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch high schools.

A new school comes with new friends and new enemies, and lucky for Mickey, it also comes with a great new girlfriend, Ashley. For a while, it seems like Mickey's train-wreck of a life is finally improving until Ashley vanishes without a trace. Unwilling to let another person walk out of his life, Mickey follows Ashley's trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that this seemingly sweet, shy girl isn't who she claimed to be. And neither was Mickey's father. Soon, Mickey learns about a conspiracy so shocking that it makes high school drama seem like a luxury - and leaves him questioning everything about the life he thought he knew.

First introduced to readers in Harlan Coben's latest adult novel, Live Wire, Mickey Bolitar is as quick-witted and clever as his uncle Myron, and eager to go to any length to save the people he cares about. With this new series, Coben introduces an entirely new generation of fans to the masterful plotting and wry humor that have made him an award-winning, internationally bestselling, and beloved author.
Sam Lang “Shadow Boxing” Volume 3 of the “Reprisal” seriestag:www.authors.com,2011-09-17:3798404:BlogPost:931502011-09-17T11:36:03.000ZGiovanni Gelatihttp://www.authors.com/profile/GiovanniGelati

I’ll admit until maybe 4 or 5 months ago I was not really into the horror genre. I think my basic hang-up was the gore, the blood and guts, the over simplification of the action; basically it left nothing to my imagination, I like my imagination, sorry. I feel that a good writer no matter what genre I am reading can and should leave a little something for me to think about, a little bit unsaid, a little bit for me to consider to draw me in a bit and be a captive in his or her universe.
I don’t think I am alone in this reading philosophy. This is part of the reason why I am enjoying Sam Lang so much; he knows how to ramp up the tension, build a story and for that matter a series.

“Shadow Boxing” is the third installment of the Reprisal series. The other two installments in the series are “Making Plans, Making Memories” and “Impeccant”. The series will be running on a three to four week cycle. Reprisal is a town, one that is dying, drying up, becoming nothing but a vacant shell, or is it? Sam Lang uses metaphors and mixes emotions like he is baking a really good batch of brownies, adding a little bit here and there, trying to make sure he gets all the lumps out of the batter before he burns the batch, on purpose, that is the horror part. I know as a reader, sooner or later he is going to drop the anvil on my head. The dry sense of humor, the way he twists and bends the action, ramps up the tension, and builds his suspense is what makes the read for me. He uses me against me as I read and I love it. Sam Lang knows horror, my suggestion is to get into this now, if you haven’t, just go back to numero uno and get caught up, QUICKLY, this is a series you will enjoy downloading.

Here is the synopsis of “Shadow Boxing”:

“Reprisal is a dying town built on secrets and haunted by a mysterious shadow since its beginnings.

Eddie Newport must survive one night in this town with his oldest friend as a bus full of escaped murderers breaks down on Main Street.

In Shadow Boxing, events are set in motion for the prison transfer. Devin “De’Light” Lighter is a tough kid who thinks he has learned something about the true nature of power. When something out of the shadows speaks to him, he learns there may be more power in words than in action.”
