Hi Kay, You asked a wonderful question. As I mentioned in the article's opening, I certainly don't know when the famous authors I listed use editors, only that they do. But so did Theodore Bernstein, who, while deceased for quite a while now, was a…

Hey Robert. Though I agree with you on principle, I think that, creatively, point of view shifts can be executed to good and salable effect. One very well known author, Frank Herbert, demonstrated this time and again in his Dune series. Since his s…

On Writing - An Understanding of What a Book Editor Does

This is the final leg of what has become an unintended trilogy on the book editing profession, and while it might appear to be blantantly self-promoting, I hope it at least will shed a little light on the book-doctoring discipline.

A Need for Definition

A few months ago I published an article I was asked to write that explained the different phases of book editing: critiques, copy/line editing, and developmental editing. I also provided a range of

When Not to Hire a Book Editor

Here is an article on When Not to Hire a Book Editor, since on Authors.com I recently posted an article on When is the Right Time to Hire a Book Editor, and I thought readers might appreciate an opportunity to consider the flip side, of which there most assuredly is one. So here is the article, and I hope those of you will find the information to be of some benef

I facilitate a series of writing workshops sponsored by The Palm Beach County Library System, and at no charge. I will more then happy to provide the syllabus material, along with the notes, to anyone who would be interested in conducting similar programs.

There are three separate series that I have available, each designed to meet once a month for a two hour session. The Developmental Series is configured over a 12 month period, with the Intermediate and Advanced Programs at 9 months each.

Hey Robert.

Thank you for your most recent feeback. We are in definite agreement on the subject of point of view, especially when it comes to the newbie writer who has not the experience to juggle such in manuscipt format, to the salable satisfaction of editors and publishers at large.
I would further agree that the showing versus telling issue is of crucial importance to anyone trying to break into the true printed book market.
My Best,
M.

Hi Rob,
I went to your web page yesterday, and I think I signed up for the letter.I'm going back to check. Some of the things I have questions about are still in the area of point of view. If you could go further into the definition I think something will click, and pierce my thick skull.

Best of luck to you too, Robert! I think authors.com is a great place to market yourself and meet new people. It's very user friendly. My publisher was authorhouse and they've been great. With the book published comes the real work as I market my book. It's a lot of work, but fun.
You have a Merry Christmas!
