Hi Frances, yes welcome!!! I suggest, write from the heart. Write whatever...I like fiction because I am writing something I create. Don't worry about length until you want to publish it, (if it's a book). Sentence structure is important. And although, editors do edit, if they have to scrub too much, your MS will end up on the discard pile. (Scrubbing is correcting). I agree with Larry, join a writer's group. Get a Writer's Market and read what is needed. Get an agent's Market and learn...Hope you read your work...
