I am really interested in finding an agent who will take on a self-published author.  I am published with PublishAmerica and I know that I have made a horrible mistake in doing this but ... hey ... what is an author to do when she doesn't have an agent on her side to help her with all of the "hidden phrases" in the contract.  I live with in a "stone's throw" of Richmond, Va.  If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate.  I have published 3 books with PA and have a 4th one ready to go but do not know what to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  In other words ... HELP!!!!  Thank you, Drue"Dee" Miller

Thank you for the warm welcome!  Everyone has been very nice and welcoming.  I stumbled across Authors.com in my research.  I am a recent self-published author of the mystery-crime novel Trained To Kill - A Detective Oliver Rousseau Novel.  I am in the process of writing two other books, How To Publish A Book In 5 Days (which is really a "How To" manual), and Unsuspecting - the 2nd book in the Oliver Rousseau series.  Authors.com provided me with research for my "How To" manual.  One of the points I make in the manual is asking other published authors to read and write a review on a newly published author's book.  Reviews are critical for self-published author's success (and any author, really), and a great place to begin the review journey is here, where so many authors are available.  I make mention of Authors.com in my manual and what a great place it is for authors to connect.  I honestly cannot say enough good things about the wealth of information available here.  So much knowledge and experience for beginners, and the veteran writers, too.  I think of Authors.com as a place for sharing.

Hi Kay, Thank you for the warm welcome and the good wishes on my release day.  :)
  • Jenn Donnelly

Thanks for the welcome. I'm the world worst social networker so I'm having trouble keeping up with the different sites and groups I've recently joined.  I'll make my way over to that thread you suggested asap.

Hello, thank you for the welcoming. I heard about Authors.com through and email from the Author Cynthia Townley (Trained to Kill-A Oliver Rousseau Novel, How to Publish a Book in 5 Days, and Unsuspecting TBR; all of which are ebooks). I work with her in helping promote and edit her ebooks. I am currently looking for bloggers to read and post reviews on Trained to Kill and I found this site to be full of book lovers of all kinds!! If you or someone you know would be interested in reading Trained to Kill, please contact me and I would be happy to give access to a free download of the novel. Her ebooks are available at Amazon.com, B&N.com and Smashwords.com. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you again for the welcoming to this site!!

Hi, Kay! Nice to meet you! I am always interested in doing giveaways and you know, as a publisher, I'll take jsut about any review I can get for my authors.  Please let me know the details and we'll get something going right away!  Comfort Publishing also has a Publisher's page on Goodreads.com and we run several giveaways there as well!

Hi! I will find out about the state wide competition some time in the next couple of months and the Writer's Digest competition for short stories and poetry won't be until late next summer. I am excited about them. For me, it isn't about winning, (although that would be nice!) it's more about just entering. That's just a huge step for me in itself. Kinda like joining this site. :)

    Hi Kay,
I found my way to your community through my publisher. Just recently published a book: "Birgitta, A Life Wired." It's nice when people show interest in you.

Kay, If there's an administrative contact on the Authors.com website, I haven't been able to find it. Thought you might know, I have some questions, like how to post a blog, why my photo hasn't been uploaded after two attempts.

Sorry it has taken so long to answer you. I have been very bad about keeping up with everything as writing books takes a lot of time and research and I have been doing bunches of that as of late...of course tornadoes and other things have also been in the way.  Hopefully you will not judge me too harshly. My books are "The Incident", "Every Hour Counts" and a "Jake" series of children's books written for my grandkids and grea- grandkids. Presently working on second book about my 1879 clocks life from day to day, "Every Hour Counts, The Life of Gregory Clock"

Hello Kay.  My publisher invited me to Authors.com initially.  I haven't spent a lot of time here, but hope to learn from others as I visit.  As for reading any of my writings, so far I have only had one book published and it will be released on August 1.  It won't be available until then.  I don't think my publisher would appreciate me putting any of it this site, just yet. :-)
  • Stephen Paul Campos

    "Charlie Doesn't Live Here Anymore"

This true story is being covered by a local Washington D.C. newspaper reporter and photographer who is writing an incredible story for a 2005 Memorial Day special.

57 year old Stephen Campos is interviewed prior to the reunion with his two Vietnam combat buddies. The setting will take place at “The Wall”, at the Vietnam Memorial, in Washington D.C. The three haven’t seen each other since the jungles of Vietnam in 1968.

Campos shares his experiences in combat that lead to his PTSD, when his platoon experiences a horrific “friendly fire” tragedy, just two weeks into their tour of duty.

After the event, a shaken Campos and his two closest combat buddies make a covenant that they would die for each other and then reunite after the war.

It is 37 years later that the three will meet together for the first time to honor their vow and face their war demons.

I believe I found Authors.com because Jason Huddle invited me to join.  His publishing house, Comfort :Publishing, published my short-story collection, Once Upon a Decade: Tales of the Fifties, which was a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, short-story category, 2011.

    Kay Elizabeth:

Thank you so much for all the work you have done on this site!  I am currently snowed under (writing two books--both "potato chip" books, one for publisher, one for self-pub) and promoting two books--self-pubbing the serioius one--The Only Way to Paradise, and since the other one has been on the publisher's best seller list for weeks, am pretty much leaving that one alone.  My husband writes a great blog http://passivevoice.com all about e-publishing and its effects on the market and from that fell into contract negotiation (he's an intellectual property lawyer and my last contract made him see red) .  He's now writing a much-needed book on the subject (which he will self-publish) and as soon as that is done will offer his services as a negotiation agent  for part or whole agreements.  He certainly did right by me.  I have all the rights back for ten of my backlist which I intend to republish on line at about half the price, and will get much bigger royalties.  The hang-up of course is self-promotion (not that they ever did much).  Have arranged an important radio interview for this coming Sunday and plastered invites all over facebook and goodreads and my blog and writer's group (400 members).  As soon as that is over and I update my blog (http://ggvandagriff.com/blog) and website, I will start to take advantage of your suggestions.  I'm having to compartmentalize right now or my life would be chaos.  Thank you so very much for your welcome!  Hopefully we'll "make good music together."

    With warmest regards,

Thank you so much for this welcome Kay! I have found Authors.com by my good friend Kenneth L. Small who has helped me in so many ways to include help in publishing my books into a reality. He suggest that this would be a turning stone. I have been so busy in other works that I have not had much time in here or on facebook.com. I do need to promote my books and am finding ways to do this.

Thank you for your a warm welcome. My passion for classical English literature and good writing has brought me along several paths, many of which came to a dead end, but I guess this one led me to writers who might share similar tastes!
  • Michael Craig

Thanks for asking Kay. I found this site through a friend of mine, Amazon best-seller Jason Oman.  I have written 3 books, a novel and 2 self-help books, and have in the works about 12 more.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you Mad. Lizzy. I was busy with my degree education as I wanted to come up with 1st Class honours which I indeed achieved at the end of my studies. I am now working on my own book which I intend to bring out by the end of the year. Currently, what I do is help create authors in that I help people to come up with books. they tell me the idea and I create a book out of it for them. Some also come with bits of information and I help them build it into a book. Eg. Secret of Womanhood (Author in Ghana), Heaven on Earth & God's Eternal Kingdom (Author is in Liberia) and the Truth That Must Be Told (USA/Ghana). My background as a Journalist and Public Relations person has been of tremendous help as after the books are printed am able to assist in their launch as well. I hope my book makes the needed impact.

Having two E Books published on Amazon's Kindle, I was browsing through the Kindle Community and saw Sarah Williams thread talking about her blogsite.  Once I checked that one out I saw where she was a member of Author's.com so I had to check this site out.  I'm glad I did and that's what brought me here.
  • Donald Simmons

Since I opened the site I have been very busy and appologize for not responding sooner, Kay. I was looking around for like minded people to associate with on Authors.com and you seemed interesting. Your work interests me too. Love thrillers and anyting with a lot of action in it. Blessings!
