Thanks for the feedback.  I do need to find out what the shippingcost will be but so far the $6.90 per hard cover book is not bad.

I just called Creat Space and was told that shipping cost for 100 books woud be about $40.00 or $0.40 per book.  If you ordedr more the each price could get lower. That is for a 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 hard cover book with 130 pages.

Createspace also has direct connection to Amazon and the E-Book market.  We will have to facxe the fact that paper will become a thing of the past.

$6.90 is a good price with a $0.40 per book shipping charge.  That puts hardcover books at $7.30 each.  A few months ago, I bought 275 copies for $8.99 plus $189.17 shipping charge.  This means I paid $9.68 per copy total.  $2.00 difference is $2.00 in your pocket.

I have been doing so thinking about how to get my books sold and still make some money.  True the $7.30 per hard cover is a great price but you still have to get them sold.  Most book stores charge a large % of the price.  I am in contact with the locall school to see if they would like to use my book as a fund raiser.  I woul dlet the school keep $7.00 per book sold at a list price of $17.00 hard cover signed.  That would still leave me with about $2.00 per book after the cost for the book is subtracted.  And I can put it down as a charitable donation for taxes.  Think about how many books can be sold that way.  I am sure you all have bought something from the local school to support their worthy programs.

Getting the book published is only the first step.  Once you have the book you need to market it.  I have been doing some thinking aobut a way to get lots of copies sold and even make a few dollars.  I contacted a local high school and asked if they would consider selling my book as a fund raising event.  Much to my surpirse they did not turn me down.  they said they would need to see the book first and then they might be interested.  I offered them $5.00 per book sold at a list price of $17.95.  Each book would be signed by me.  If I can keep the cost per book under $8.00 I will be able to make a little money.  Most schools sell candy bars to get money for the band and this would be easier to do.  I am sure they could sell between 500 to 1,000 books

I'd be grateful for any tips this group might have on the subject of desktop publishing software. I plan to self-publish a non-fiction book that, along with text, will have quite a few tables and graphs (both b/w and color) that have been created in Excel. Which programs are best for this sort of endeavor? (or should I just stick with creating PDFs from MSWord?)  Someone suggested Adobe's InDesign, but it looks like that is a bit pricey (~$700).

I took your survey but there seems to be a problem with the last question - I think I followed directions - ranking them but it wouldn't accept them.  Just thought I should let you know in case there is a way for you to simplify it.
