Deborah, I see your business is self-publishing. Can you tell us what makes yours stand out? It can be so confusing for new authors to choose a self-publisher when there are literally thousands of them.

Hello,

I definitely understand. I myself started out writing and did not know too much at all about publishing, so I went through a print on demand company to do my first book. Now, four years later, I have my own company, which is led by God in every aspect from formation, to how we accept manuscripts, to marketing/advertising, cover design, and who we enter into business with.

God has brought us some wonderful authors and opened great doors for us. We do have a major Distribution through channels such as Ingram, major bookstore chains (Barnes & Noble, Borders, Family Christian Stores, etc), we do partner with several major church bookstores (some over 10,000 member churches), we do author interviews through christian radio, magazines (online & print), book trailers/interviews on our site, book signings, and much more. As I said, God is working through us and giving us great ideas for our authors.

Self Publishing explained
Traditionally, publishers do all the marketing for their authors’ books. That takes resources, which is why it is hard to get a book accepted by a publisher.
Self-publishing is the publication of any book or other media by the author of the work, without the involvement of an established third-party publisher.
Publishing is generally done at the expense of the author.
As a self-publisher DLite Press www.dlitepress.com lets you publish your work without going through a publisher, which means that you are taking charge of the storage, distribution¬ either directly to consumers or to retailers¬ and the selling and marketing of your book.
In fulfilling this role you, the writer, will also be taking editorial control of the content and arranging for printing.
However, all rights remain with the author. The completed books are the writer's property, and the writer gets all the proceeds of sales.

 I have now produced and published several audio books, and have decided to offer this service to self-publishing authors. I have the ability to sell audio books through audible.com (a division of Amazon), and the ability to return up to 15% of the proceeds to the author. For every hour of narrated, edited, and mastered audio it takes approximately 14 actual hours of work, so my price of $200 per finished hour is really very reasonable. Each finished hour is usually about 10,000 words. So if your book is 70,000 words, then the audio book will cost $1400 to produce. That means that once 1400 copies are sold, it has paid for itself (audio books that sell for $6.75 generate 15% for the author, or about a dollar per). This, however, is in perpetuity, with no additional printing or production costs ever. Does this sound reasonable?
