Rule #1: Find a beta-reader in your town, a friend who loves to read and is as picky about grammar mistakes as possible.

Rule #2: grammarly.com is a grammar polishing app you can download as a free version on Google Chrome. It will catch 95% of my grammar mistakes in spite of everything I do or others do to make the book as enjoyable and grammar error free as possible.

Rule #3: NEVER try to edit your book yourself when you got to the end.

Grow a thick skin... Not everyone will like what you write - and some of those people will have no problem saying it right out there. Understand that while some people like coke - others only drink pepsi. Accept that there will be people who do not like your writing and focus on the ones that do.

Yup, I like it too. There are of course dream catchers in it and they play a powerful role. The whole series is based in the Land of Dreams and is a fantasy adventure for anyone who is young at heart. I am also writing several short stories to go with the books and to help teach me (and practise) more about story writing.

KIMBERLY said:…

Right on, Mathew! You punched out the basics very well. Now punch lines for hook purposes on Twitter sounds great and I'm going off to try that now. Sales are dismal across all my titles and it's really depressing me.

Edit.

Write a lot. "An athlete may run ten thousand miles in order to prepare for 100 yards. Quantity gives experience." Ray Bradbury.

Edit.

If you want to make money, don't expect it from your novels right away. Right a bunch of shorts stories, pop them up for $0.99 on Kindle and Smashwords, and use them to drum up business.

Edit.

Most importantly: Your writing isn't as bad as you think it is. You're your own worst critic. Well...you and that Amazon troll that just likes to give everyone 1 stars. I won't tell you their username, he/she has about a thousand of them, just ignore him/her.
